thanks, they are very nice and were got quite cheap on ebay :) and i plan to have it done by the end of february, thats when im off the yaris' insurance so il need a car, ive also recently decided to not have it resprayed professionally, im just going to do all the prep work and paint it with a roller to keep costs down and get it on the road quicker, thats why im doing all the red oxide instead of just leaving it in etch :)

plans are going a bit tits up to be honest :( no way it will be done by the end of february and il be just doing the prep work on the inside and leaving the rest to a professional. started to refurb parts to get it to a rolling shell and the front hubs and radius arms where in worse condition than originally thought, im just re-doing the brake system basically and stripping it all apart to paint

Posted Image
all the bottom is stone chipped and undersealed now

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
stripped back the inside and boot area back to bare metal, etched then red oxided so just need some high build primer and flat it back apart from a couple of wee areas needing a light skim of filler :)

Posted Image
started to re-furb this but im going to drop it in a bucket of petrol and de-grease it and fully clean it up before i re-build it

im goin to be ordering alot of new parts tomorrow so i can get the shell made into a rolling shell and then the work can really fly along or at least.. thats the theory anyway :-)

all comments welcome, Adam

been busy with alot of tech work recently but ive managed to get a good wee bit done on the mini :-)

i completely stripped the radius arms of anything that could come of without having to take the backplate off etc, cleaned up and painted everything and replaced everything, cylinders, drums, pads and springs. although some parts were servicable i decided to just not take any risks and replace the lot
Posted Image
Posted Image

cleaned up the trumpets and gave them a spray to tidy them up a bit :-) replacing the cones and getting hi-lo's is on the list of future things to do but just no money to do it haha
Posted Image

the pedals looked a bit tired so i gave them a wire brush and painted them in black and i found out the brake light switch was broken so now i know why they didnt work when i got the car :-)
Posted Image

last time i test fitted the rear subframe i didnt have the big polyurethane bushes at the front and i used the old rubber ones, at the time it fitted perfectly and i assumed it would be the same with new bushes, theory didnt work, i put all the new bushes on and the fitted all the components to the rear subframe and when i tried to fit it, it wouldnt fit
spent ages trying to find the culprit, had to take apart the rear subframe again and make some very slight modifications to the steel mounts to get it to fit since polyurethane obviously doesnt compress and mould in the same way as rubber
finally got it on and the old wheels fitted :-) 2 and a bit days it took to work everything out in it haha
Posted Image

currently re-building the front hubs and then it will be into a full rolling shell for the 1st time in nearly 2years, just realising that O_O need to really get a move on now haha

all comments welcome, Adam :-)

alrighty then :-) really got some good work done now and its a full rolling shell :D

gave the front subframe another lick of paint along with the bottom arms and stuff and got it fitted into the mini awaiting the hubs
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

did a full refurb of the hubs. new bearings, gaitors, brake cylinders, brake pads, drums and ball joints so everything should work perfectly when its finished :-) and of course fitted them
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

couldnt resist fitting the wheels that will go on at the end just for the crack :-)
Posted Image

need to get it re-sprayed now and get some things bolted back in so its not sitting as high :P
Posted Image

also got a couple of other small things done while i was just bored. re-wrapped the wiring loom in blue tape, im still not sure on it but aww well and i also took the brake master cylinder apart a wee bit and painted it so it looks respectable instead of a rusty mess :-)
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

thats all for now, i have a few small things to do and then il be getting some paint quotes over the next couple weeks so that means i can re-assemble the engine and get the garage cleaned thoroughly for when he comes back if i find a painter :-)

haha ive applied for an apprenticeship in shorts which starts in september and if i get that then i will need a car and i would rather not have to buy a wee crappy car like a saxo so its all out at the moment :-) going to see a sprayer tonight so i can hopefully get him up over the next couple of days for a quote :D

and i cant go fast til the engine is finished and in :P who needs brakes haha il just have 1 seat and an engine and that will do :-)

if he quotes £1000 for it he can take it straight away haha but the engine just needs some bits put back on and all torqued up which il do when it goes for respray but i think 90% of parts are ready to go back on so im hoping it will be a nice easy re-assembly but for some reason i have a feeling it wont be quite that simple since nothin has been simple going back on yet

REGGIE HAS GONE FOR RESPRAY :D

was picked up this more to go for final work, prep and respray

seam sealed everything on the inside 1st though
Posted Image

then started loading everything and getting a few things ready
Posted Image
Posted Image

the garage feels so big and empty now :-(
Posted Image

the strip down and clean was started and then i got distracted cus i decided to fit the bushes into the top engine steady, spent a while figuring it out and i came up with a solution since i dont have a press or a vice :-)
Posted Image
G-clamp with something flat on 1 side to stop it falling through, i used a paint scraper and then simply wind it in and press the sides in with a screwdriver and continue tightening until it reaches the other side and then place it on something flat and whack it with a mallet to force the rest through and same applys for the crush tube but put some wd40 on it 1st :-)

long time and no update, havent had time for ages  had to finish tech before i could get stuck in rebuilding but heres what ive managed to get done so far:

Posted Image

wiring loom, pedal box, and brake and clutch master cylinders fitted
Posted Image

made up all the brake pipes and the fuel pipe and fitted them
Posted Image

fuel tank fitted, made the stupid mistake of forgetting to fit the rear shock absorbers first so i had to take it back out lol
Posted Image

also fitted the handbrake and a complete new handbrake cable
Posted Image

i fitted the new clutch to the engine and a couple of mates helped me to lift it onto the front subframe and lift the body over and onto the subframe. fitted some of the electrics and fitted the plumbing in and again been very stupid and forgot the fan so the radiator had to come out again and the fan fitted
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

fitted a nice new chrome aerial and because ive put that on i can get the headlining fitted soon
Posted Image

got some wiper stalks of a mate and put the on my steering column and fitted it with my nice new steering wheel :-)
Posted Image

i figured at this point would be best to fit the carpets before the heater box etc so i spent a good few hours cutting and trimming the carpets and underlay to fit and im very happy with how it turned out :D
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

i forgot to say i had also fitted the gear linkage and luckily i think i have all the gears

next plan is to adjust the tappets and fit whats left of the engines electrics and hope it starts :-) also need to get a clutch pipe and hope the clutch works, i followed the haynes exactly so il see how it goes lol

also got the brakes bled and working after fixing a couple of small leaks

all comments welcome, Adam :-)
