na his are just gel coated FG, they are still well nice. i havent been in the car when its going along so i can really say about how comfy they are, but yeah no padding at all!

they are a bit wider than the imolas, but im only a small lad so i like the imola as i feel tight in my seat.

i will measure the hole centers of the bases when i can find a tape measure (bother to go to the garage and get 1 :dontgetit:lol) and then let you know!

oh yeah seeing as i am going 7 port i thought id steal and post this link

7 port

no padding at all doesnt sound too good to me... is the lack of padding his choice or do smudgers seats just not have padding?

what about weight do you know how heavy your imola is? i know smudgers are about 4.5kg.

cheers nice one.

his seat wernt acctually smudgers ones, but i think he just chose against padding, there going into a kit car so hes not worried about the milage and comfort.

imolas weighs 6.2kg but that is with the side mounts on, and i have the thick cobra side mounts too say id say it weighs about 5.5kg without these at a guess.

yeah just got a tape measure on them.

the mounts are actually 405mm long and there are 8 mounting holes on each mount, the widest ones being 365mm apart.

yeah i thought they would be, the next hole along would give 340mm between centers so even close to what you said before!

anyway ive been out in the garage today and im starting to wish id got a new shell, every thing seams to take so long and i just havent got any motivation to be out getting showered with grinding sparks and weld.

im sure i will be a bit happier when i start to weld the new panels on its just i want to make sure every bit it done right before moving on to the next bit.

im going to set a dead line right now that all the preperation for welding the new panels on will be done by the end of january, and i will have had the car sand blasted by then aswell!!!

i still have a long list:

finish cutting boot floor out (if it arrives in time!)
grind back welds in boot
grind back old sill from lip (both sides)
weld up end of cross member (both sides)
grind back welds (passenger side)
prep car so sill fit (both sides)

really i better stop messing about on here and go and do it!

yeah im just bored of welding i think!

ive now welded up the end of the crossmember on the drivers side and also started to gring back the welds on that side, just been out and bought a tin of primer to give that a quick spray.

ive also been experimenting with the flock kit i bought over the last few days and have now done my steering column shroud, it good, not perfect but it will do, i now need do my dash rails!

couldnt resits another picture as well, im definately going to be putting in the over time hours this month!

yeah its just one of those things! i cant wait to weld up my wings, it will start to look like a mini again!

stayed behind at worked today and drilled the holes in my steering wheel to fit my boss, it looks good and much neater with just 3 bolts!

i have also been doing some reserch into the 7 port and dave vizards thinks you should be able to get 160 BHP with not much work, that was how ever with the old AKM head!

i have also been talking with ant of ant speed who is helping to build my engine and he is definately reccomended ITB's over webers or even delortos as they will be able to atomise so it is alot finer which is what the 7 port needs! :gimme:

How much did you have to buy to do the flocking on the dash rails and the shroud?

so far i have only done the colomn shroud, and there is loads left but im going to buy another lot before i do the rails just to be on the safe side, im also going to experiment with putting the glue on with a sponge to try and get a better finish!

Wow, haven't read this project for a few pages and things seem to be coming along as quickly as usual!

Hope you have more luck with the MiniSport 7 port head than a couple of people I've read about (mainly just not performing as well as hoped), have you thought about sending the head to an engine tuner to inspect?

ah is that true jammy i hadnt actually heard of any problems, that is a very good idea about getting it inspected. i should be able to get it checked easily as we do machining like the heads where i work.

thanks for that advice, i havnt actually paid for the head yet so i might ring up mini sport and have a chat about the head!

i also wonder if these people may be expecting the power level of the old AKM 7 port as vizard rekons 160 bhp is easily obtainable, mini sport said about 130 from a good spec 1380! so thats 30 bhp lost straight away!

oh well atleast it it will sound good!

here are a couple of pictures of my steering wheel with boss attached, im lovin it!

and also here is a picture of my flocked steering column, its not to easy to see as this was when they wee being done so they are surrounded by the excess flock

Posted Image

this evening i started the long job of modifying my steering column to fit the boss annd also lengethen it.

i have now cut off the thread where the origional boss would have bolted on and i have now faced this end and drilled/ taped the hole for the new boss!
