? would it not make sense to weld it all up then get it coated?

out of interest has anyone on here ever had a car zinc coated?

you mean galvanised? i dont think people get shells galvanized becuse of the high temperatures involved would cause distortion to the shell.

you could get the zinc primer out and spray the whole shell dont think there is such as thing as a zinc top coat is there?

its what they did to the subrfame

its not galvanised, the powder coaters sprayed some sort of electrostatic stuff on it and he said it was zinc coating to stop rust, and he thinks he would be able to get my shell in the spray both to coat it!

Mines being Zinc coated before paint!
The stuff is expensive thou, but I'm getting all mine via work...

yeah i know, he quoted £500 to media blast it and the zinc it!

No, mines being sprayed on!
I'm having 2-3 coats of Zinc put onto mine, I could also have a layer of "glavansing" spay put on before hand too...

Altogether mine is having done -

Stripped to bare metal
Cold Galvansiving
3 coats of Zinc
2 coats of filler primer
3 coats of grey primer
2 coats of top coat

Thick and smooth, and "shouldn't" rust for a fair few years! But I have filled my sills etc, with waxoil, and red oxide...

just mail ordered set of solid tower mounts so i can fit my front subframe and line the front end up, get paid thursday as well so i can get some more new bits to keep me busy!

Only I've got to take the subby off again on mine, going to weld in a weber box, and "pocket" the bulkhead to allow room for my carbs...

same ones as you, from mini speed. i was going to go for KAD but the only seem to sell the top mount??

Aye I noticed that, they don't seem to sell the lower mounts...
Mine are shuddersfield mounts, no idea what the lower mounts are, I already had them from Emma, the other Mini, I had at the beginning of '06.

The subby, was on, cones fitted etc..
but no biggie, brake lines to take off, etc... guess its my own fault for changing the colour

not so bad then, just added hassle

getting the curley boot, going to see how bigger discount i can get, they owe me

the roll cage tube and shell tags.

also a load of sheet steel so i can start on the new baulkhead!

Wish I had the guts and the welder to weld a few extra bars to my cage, but I want my cage to be completely removable if/when I come to sell it...

i may get someone in to weld the cage up, want really neat welds!

just been out and seam welded the towers on my subframe and also added a bit of beef to the tie rod mountings, and seam welded them too.

thats the front frame ready apart from a couple of little mounts i want to fabricate for my brace bars, got a plan with these as i dont want to use the normal type bars as the are a bit boxy for my likeing instead i am going to have an adjustable bar either side with a rose joint at each end, seen this done and it looks smart.

so if any one wants a set of brace bars in primer for £20 give me a shout.
