I'm not saying an iPhone can't be beaten on individual tests, but as a complete package it still wins the tests. The stuff and t3 mags both still rate it number one. The current iphone is a year old and it still more than holds it own against anything android has, however current. The app store is far better than the android market. The other problem with android is there are so many versions. Although they are starting to address it now, there have been major issues. Some apps work on some phones and not others. Very few apps work on tablets and phones because the tablet version of android is different to the phones. The android market is not vetted like the app store

Everyone is chasing Apple. That's why the iPhone is the bench mark that other smart phones are compared to.

The iPhone is still the number one selling phone. And it will remain that way. It may be a big part marketing, but the products work well.

I'm not saying don't buy android stuff. They do make some very good and capable phones. And while the iPhone can still do everything they can, the deciding factor for me is looks abs build quality.

But like I have already said, it would be boring if everyone were the same.

I still use my original iPhone 4 year old and it runs as fast as it did when it was new the camera is still just as good and it's crashed once when I jumped in a river and forgot it was in my pocket. The only thing that doesn't work anymore is the headphone jack that wore out (the socket wont hold the jack in) a few weeks ago as I had used it as an iPod for 360 days a year. I've also had an iMac for 3 years and it's never crashed and neither has my Dads Mac Book that he's had for 4/5 years. Apple products just go and go.

I'd been on contract for 5 years previously and changed my phone every 12 months. I only had one phone (Nokia 8800) that was faultless for a year, everything else (Motorola, 2 other Nokias and an LG) either froze frequently or broke and had to be replaced.

Interestingly, the Samsung S II is 3rd according to stuff.tv. Granted most of the phones get 5* so realistically there will be little between them.

Also interestingly, the S II is £500 which happens to be the same price as a 16gb iPhone. More frequently now those companies chasing Apple are raising prices - quality costs money.

But I will admit the HTC and S II are nice phones.

Like you say the SII and the iphone are the same price, so why can't I get an iphone for less than £35 a month and still get a decent deal.

My SII is £25 a month, phone was £50 and I get 750 mins, 5k txts and 500mb internet (upgradable to 1gb for an extra £2 a month)

Theres no network that'll offer a similar contract for iphone, no where near as good infact. If there was i'd of had a harder time chosing between the 2. Most of the guys in the phone shops I spoke to were saying they were selling a few iphones for every 20 odd SII's every week since the SII came out - Probably because of this unexplained price difference.

So opinions aside - Why are iphones so much more on contract if the phones are the same value?

Personally I believe its just down to apples marketing and the belief that your getting a better product - Even though they're worth the same.

By the way - I'm done arguing now i've said my side and heard others and i'll stick to my own views. I'm just curious as to other peoples thoughts of the price/deal difference between and iphone and another comparable phone like the SII considering they're very similarly priced.

You are getting a better produced with the iPhone though . You talk about the price like they are the same phone. There not the iPhone has a lot more work put into it's hardware software and marketing
And my IPhone contract is £20 a month so you price argument is not valid.

I paid £75 for the phone with a £20 contract and I get 200 minutes unlimited texts and unlimited Internet.
And the phones are not the same in value. The IPhone is more

The SII and the iphone are both £500 when they're not on offer.

Your getting a good deal but still, the minutes your getting are poor in comparison to other £20 contracts where you get free phones. But if texts are what you need most then that contract is ideal.

I couldn't find a contract for an iphone for less than £36 where the iphone was free and I tried a fair few places, and the contracts that were about £30 a month (the most i wanted to spend) for iphones were crap deals and the iphone was way over £50.

I did some research on this. When the iPhone first came out, the 16Gb was 500, the 32Gb was 600. I bought mine October last year, still at these prices. Yes you do generally pay a bit more for the iPhone contract, but you get more - the App store is better, the build quality is better, its so simple and intuitive to use.

But - when I bought mine, I researched and and spoke to the guy in the shop. They fully agree that it works out cheaper in the long run if you buy the phone by itself and then get a normal sim only contract. You can get some good deals that way. I pay 25 a month, 900 anytime minutes, unlimited text & MMS, and 1Gb of data a month. Plus with this, I'm only tied into a one year contract not a two year one.

Prices get more competitive as time goes by so prices will fall.
