Gday mate,

Cant be bothered reading the whole thread as i am to tired it almost 2 am over here. The photo is of the crankcase ventilation. Not sure if anybody as mentioned it already.

Anyways have a read through this. It was written by one of australias premier mini specialists and has alot of good info on how to make a small bore quick. He mainly covers the 1098 but they are basically the same as a 998 apart from crank.

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Steve
:D

Ventalation you say... is it needed? im pretty sure my engine in the mini at the moment doesnt have one.. :S and cheers for the link very helpful!

In terms of the pulley bolt its beeing a right little geet! Manged to bend a metal bar so far its on that tight! If it doesnt work its going to have to be the gearbox off and jam the crank i think :S Good times :( back to try i go!

Have you soaked it penatrating fluid overnight, try a little heat with a blow lamp, you need a bigger hammer :techsupport:

Diiiid it! Boom! Dad helped. Removed the block. Tried wood on crank but it snapped so carefully used a crowbar to jam it. And after some uber grunting it gave! Will get some pics up later I need some food :D wool!

Right after trying to get stuff done before/ after and during work finally managed to get the engine all stripped down. Also arrived home to find ive missed the delivery of my new head so that will arrive wednesday now :D woop :) Pretty nakered so just going to quickly chuck some pics up and a little of how its going.

Are these the oil plugs i have to drill out by the way? Saw in anotehr post andyminimad was mentioning about it so you can clean the block properly.

This is how tight the pulley bolt was

Numero Uno piston has some damage to the surface. As said before was looking into reboring so will be heading the direction of new pistons anyway i think.
Posted Image
Bearing sleeve also seems to have some wear.
Posted Image

Bit of scuffing like this on all 4 pistons. Is this the norm?

super dont make the misstake i made i marked the bottoms and not the con rods, just a tip the auto shop that did mine popped the edge with a centre punch . .. ... ....

No they are core plugs the oilway plugs are about 1/2'' in diamater at each end of the block check my photo's i have a photo of them

the core plugs just whack a flat screwdriver through and lever them out, the oil gallery plugs i drilled a small hole in the middle put a corse screw it and pulled them out with a claw hammer one got stuck so i tapped a small flat screwdriver down the side of it and folded it in this one had a bigger hole in the middle though

Going to pressure wash it tommorow and will see how it turns out. Trying not too spend too much money where I can save it. The inside has quite a bit of surface rust but the porting e.t.c should sort that...
