Think I'll take it down to an engineering firm and get it sorted out.
That's what I thought but if it slipped it wouldn't be sitting in the opposite side perfectly snug but I'm thinking that could only be the case as there would be some damage if it happened in the engine during use.
Will upload photos of pistons see what people think going to flicks now to see sherlock Holmes might crack on a bit more tomorrow after work

When rebuilding mine one corner of a piston was a bit pitted, I give it a light emery rub, reringed it and reused it, touch wood its been fine
its up to you though, new pistons are a pricey affair

Can I clean the gearbox/transmission out with all parts still intact?

Oil gallery plugs there should be three on a 1275 is that correct? i only found two on one side one was open up already for a securing bolt?
Got the block bin soaked in jizer now going to clean it down and strip the paint then work on the head.
Can the piston bores just be polished down with a polishing kit.
