Hey all
After removing my carpet today in my 2000 mpi I have realised she has been cut and shut. Mortified when I saw it but what are the implications if any? I bought it from a local mini garage, do you think I should go back?
All thoughts welcome.
Dave

Stick some pictures up, what makes you think its been a cut and shut? It may have just been repaired due to rust.

Are you sure it's not just had a panel or part of a panel replaced?

Are you sure it hasn't just had the floor pans replaced. Late Minis are well known for rusting so it wouldn't surprise me if it had had some work done.

If it is a cut and shut then take it back to the garage you bought it from and get your money back.

Will get some pics up tomorrow but basically there is a big V across the rear footwells from one side to the other. Along it are bolts and where the seam meets the sills on either side are big metal plates with bolts which look like there holding two sides together.

How long have you had the car and how was it described when you bought it?
If you've not had it long and it is just 'bolted' together and is not a proper restoration, take it back and demand a full refund. If no luck, involve trading standards if necessary.

Had the car since October and there was Jo mention of any resto when I bought it. I could tell the wings had been replaced too and haven't been done badly. Regarding the floor, it looks like it has been welded too and maybe the bolts are there as extra security. Is this normal practice?
The roof has no visible cut lines and same with the top of the door but thinking more and more about the floor there can really be any other explanation. I noticed the fuel lines on the passenger side had also been up yesterday so there's another clue.
Will it greatly reduce any resale value of the car even if it is safe?

Really need some photos mate.

I doubt it's a cut and shut to be honest, It could be a very poor repair, which if it's the rear floor only, then shouldn't cost too much to put right.

Like other's have said, pictures are needed really give you the best idea of what you have. It may just be a bad repair or maybe your just not used to seeing exposed welds?

Look forward to seeing these pic's!

If its an actual cut and shut it can't be resold technically. Its illegal and will be crushed if it was found out to be one.

As above though cut and shuts are rare really

Cut and shuts are not illegal if its done properly, if they were you wouldn't be able to get a limo or a hearse.
