They are when its 2 different cars put together and sold as one.

Limos aren't bodged cut and shuts, serious engineering and testing goes into them to ensure they're safe.

Nope mate, once neither are stolen and you get it SVAd afterward you can legally weld two completely different cars together

As far as I know, the SVA doesn't allow anything like chassis, driveshafts, steering shafts to be cut and shut together.

Welding 2 cars together - providing they are both legally sourced (not stolen,CAT A or CAT B)

and it's done properly is totally legal

a 'Q' mark will be allocated. ESVA, SVA or MSVA will be required. (or maybe a newer one now)

as well as MOT (I think)

not much different than replacing the floor pan / sills / upper a posts on a car

firstly a normal cut and shut wouldn't require any of the above

I used to extend / drop lorry Chassis , for alternate bodies - welded & braced

I've welded / braced lorries , that have cracked in two pieces - all passing HGV testing

all perfectly legal , on both Car and HGV's where a Chassis is used (when done properly(I was supervised))

the mini is monocoque

Well what i've read in the past is wrong then.

Wouldn't it be up to the car owner though to prove the 2 ends of the car didn't some from a scrappy or stolen? It'd be hard to prove wouldn't it?

I should imagine you would be required to show photo's vin plates receipts etc

and yes it would be hard for the builder to prove , especially the back end

as I think most vin numbers are at the front

I should Imagine cut & shuts are pretty rare now

and hopefully the Mini we are talking about isn't one

the best way to add photos is to sign up to photobucket.com or similar... upload the photos to there, then copy the 'img' codes onto here

cut and shuts, hmmm interesiting, if two cars are welded on correct boddy lines and correctly then no issues, if like a renualt 5 i got a few yrs back it had an arse end welded on it, thought the top of the c posts and across rear end of the floor, and that evan passed a police inspection that the previous owner had done,

done correctly no issue, done badly like any other repair not good

Click on more reply options under the reply box to go to the full options screen. Then theres an option to attach files are the bottom.

Either do it that way or as above, join photobucket and upload them to that.

FECK ME!!!

Thats a mess, you can see where the panels have been overlapped and not welded properly.

Looks utterly dangerous.

Take it back and shove it up the dealers arse.
