They will only break into the boot if they cant see the normal tank filler, hence the suggestion to leave the original one fitted, if they cant get any fuel out they will just think the tank is very low, not that you fitted an extra tank!

Unless they now want to steal your battery and weigh that in for lead of course!!!

A mate of mine had a pretty funny idea for protecting his car. A cage on the roof, containing a couple poo flinging monkeys.. Would you go near that!? >_<

Seriously though... Maybe if you had a pressure switch to fit between the filler cap & the neck. It could be set to trigger an alarm when the switch is opened (filler cap removed).

Also, what others have said, install an internal tank & leave you existing one intact, but empty.

(My friend hasn't got any monkeys by the way, so they wont be harmed in the making of an alarm system)

I'm sure a magnet and reed switch is the easy way to get round the wiring difficulties, but it wouldn't stop your cap or filler neck getting trashed before it did anything, but you can get a Monza style cap off fleabay for just 15 squids.

Slightly more than a replacement locking cap >_<

My fuel tank filler is now in the boot.

This should stop them.

Just have the problem of the fuel line underneath.

Problem is - it really doesn't take much effort to bust a boot door

haha he thinks hes safe then walks out the next morning to find they just busted his boot open and robbed the whole tank instead

The internal tank was done more so to remove the neck and create a smoother outside, and not created to stop fuel theft as it garaged 24/7.

luckily i park it near the wall on my drive so they cant really stand comfortably or even squeeze pass to reach the fuel cap. so i'm quite lucky.

Ive had mine done 3 times (not for over a year which is good) and each time they left no damage but the cap was gone and the remains of it were left in the bottom of my tank (a few plastic bits and a spring). I took the tank out recently and found all the bits.

It doesn't look like they used a screwdriver but the cap was definitely ripped appart somehow. Probably just a screwdriver and a hammer to the lock.

They were always this cap http://minispares.co...ty=pb&pid=33983

Funnily enough its not happened since i switched to a different cap. Either that or they saw the police at my house.

Not read through all of the thread, but couldn't someone invent a way to put the real filler cap inside the boot and to wire the car battery to the fake external fuel cap? Wouldn't be much of a visual deterrent but my god they'd probably not bother again :D

I think renting Ban Margera, to sit on the roof of your car - and pee on people that try to steal fuel. Irritates people on Jackass pretty well :D

I certainly wouldn't go near a car - if there was a risk I was going to get pee'd on haha :P

You could get CCTV and get a few lads round when it happens, then attack them, might put them off, and it's only defence of your property.

EDIT: Above post looks good also

Hi Guys thanks for all the replys. It is so annoying thinking about it maybe I should fit a second shock sensor on the tank in the boot and also a microwave proximity sensor just for that area. Got a Toad AI606 alarm with one of each already fitted. Can I fit a second of each by just splicing them into the system.

Thanks
