I get the odd person, I just figure they are very narrow minded!

I love it when you have someone who doesn't get minis in the car and people in classic jags and astons slow down to give you the nod :-)

Agree with you there mate, I'll just laugh as they're car degrades into nothingness, everyone knows what mini's are! :proud:

Everyone knows what corsa's, saxo's and fiesta's are because they have them god aweful sunstrips on them saying so. Just rise above it.

Haha yes! I know, I just laugh about it knowing how sh*t theirs are and they just don't realise :proud:

Modern cars are not sh**e, they are well-engineered, reliable, fast and efficient vehicles. But they are not 'Classic Cars' in the sense that a Mini is.
To try to compare them is not possible because you are not comparing like-with-like. The Mini is a very old design with all that implies.

Can't say I've ever had that sort of problem, in fact in my experience it's quite the reverse problem. I can't get out of mine without complete strangers coming up to me and telling me how much they love my car, how they used to have one/had one as their first car, passed their test in one, lost their virginity in the back of one etc!! :ohno: Even a few chavs in their Corsas and Saxos have come over to admire it over the years.

It sounds to me though, that you actually just have a few spotty youth idiots poking fun at your car as a way of getting at you. I'm afraid these people exist at that age in every generation, sadly some of them never actually grow out of it either. They sound like the kind of numbskulls that take pleasure from mocking and annoying others, for their own pathetic amusement. They do it to get a rise out of people and as it annoys you, then it's clearly working. The chances are that they actually have no issue with your mini at all, it's just that it's something to bait you with. If they didn't mock your car, then they would just pick on something else instead, your hair style, dress sense, physical build, accent etc.

I've always found that the most effective way of dealing with this sort of thing is to simply ignore it. If they don't get a reaction out of you, then eventually they won't bother doing it any more as there just isn't any point. Alternatively a taste of their own medicine sometimes is the best tonic, as these sort of people can often "dish it, but can't deal with it". So single one of them out and then get a load of your mates together to taunt him about a certain attribute of his, every time he goes past. Chances are that he'll hate it even more than you do and will soon get the message, if he doesn't try and rearrange your face first that is!!

Never really had this, but most of my mates are into cars and the others all appreciate the Mini :)

Had a couple of chavs pull up at a certain set of traffic lights near me who want to race, now this road is straight for about 1/4 of a mile then turns into a twisting, turning one. I always say "go on then" and let them fly off into the distance when the lights turn green but by the second or third corner Ive caught up with them and by the fifth, overtaken them because of how much they have to slow down for corners  Always give them a little wave!

Edit: Girls usually comment on the rattles and squeaks, one the other week asked "why does it have belts on the front" (bonnet straps) I laughed then explained  But the reason half of them were in the car is because they asked for a ride after we got chatting, because of the Mini! Wouldnt get that with many modern cars.

i drive many many modern cars at work and although they are fast reliable (this is debatable with the modern pugs i work on) not of them put a smile on my face like the mini does and thats that. out of all the cars i have driven one of the better ones is the little pug 107/citoren c1, not particularly fast but very egar revable with fun handling very must reminds me of the mini.

just ignore them in 5 years there cars will be baked bean tins and your will still be a legend

You will always get people who will make jokes about them and criticise them however they are usually the first people to ask you for a lift because they can't drive or don't have a car.

Nope, every time I drive mine, I get positive comments and compliments. Normally " wow, I used to have one of these, wish I could have another one"

I was talking to some fool down the petrol station last year he said "why do you kids by such crap cars? plus yours sounds like on its last legs, take it down to moors (local scrappy) and they might give you a tenner for it"

was pretty gutted to be honest, cost me alot of money to make it sound like its going to blow up lol

had to laugh when he got into a J reg micra though :L

I get a lot of mates giving me stick about Minis - mostly about them being in pieces and "ho many broken minis have you got now" etc. I also get told to buy a proper car, and buy a working car. Where's the fun in that? Most of it is all just banter though.

It doesn't matter how slow a Mini might be in comparison to modern cars, the smile factor is infinitely more.

Ever Get Sick Of People Calling Your Mini Sh*t?

Who cares?

If we all liked the same things - cars included - the world would be a pretty boring place. Cant say I've ever had any negative comments about ours, the opposite but I'm older and people are more polite at this age

But with the younger generation there is more bickering and jealously no matter what you own.

Just laugh it off knowing you have one of the coolest cars on the planet!

You get both sides really, some that have no idea of the heritage of a classic mini, or infact how much better the mini is still than some modern equivalents at what it does (except creature comforts) ( a 998cc stage one 998 is still more fuel economical than some cheap brand new 1l cars amazingly)
And the admiring lot where you can't get anything done! But at the end of the day, I'd rather be driving a mini than a modern car. There's a place for a modern motor but not as far as true car enthusiasm is concerned. I don't find bolting a crap bodykit onto a car being a car enthusiast!

......the other day in maths one kid was going on and on about his 54 reg clio and he had some how worked out that it is far superior to my mini...."what's your insurance like pal ?" ....conversation over and he soon changed his tone

It's no different from other walks of life such as those who like to have their homes full with old furniture and antiques whilst others like ultra-modern furniture and modern art on the walls. Or those who like classical music rather than 'pop'. Or those who would rather listen to music recorded onto vinyl rather than CD's or downloaded stuff.
Owning and driving a Mini is like being the person who goes for antiques and retro things. It's old, but iconic. Can't be compared with modern stuff really.
The one thing that doesn't work is buying a Mini then trying to make it perform like a modern hatch-back in terms of speed, reliability, comfort, cruising effort, etc. It won't because it was not designed to and if it is attempted it will gain in some areas and lose in others to the detriment of it's increasing value as a real classic.
