Frankly I think the original Mini owners are being pretty poor at living up to the friendly reputation in this thread.

see this is half the problem in here. i remember reading a thread from guessworks saying he was leaving because of this kind of thing. what actually is the point in trying to be that much better than everyone in utterly pointless conversations. i mean at the beginning of this thread it says something about this forum having had every 'BINI' argument already......10 pages later.....
what the hell does guessworks comments about his tech answers being frowned upon, laughed at and generally ignored have to do with a pair of people throwing their soiled underpants at each other?
Up until now, the thread had actually been in quite good humour. Yes it was pointless, but it was also harmless. I guess that just got changed. Thanks.

i know when BMW made the BINI they wanted to make it like the Mini but they didnt have to copy the build quality too, its shocking for a £10k+ car.

Classic owners do it originally by seeing someone else flash them - its the_done_thing. Mind you I've never seen 2 BINIs flash each other...ever.

well i learn to drive in a BINI (shamefull i know
) but they are bad quality. a month after my instructor got it he had to have the clutch replaced!

I'm sure we have all put enormous effort into keeping them road worthy, or in many cases adding considerable personal touches to them. I am confident I can say my classic mini is probably a one of a kind in the world and reflects my personal choices, whether good or bad.
It is this shared experience that bands classic mini owners together as a true fraturnity.
Now that's not to say we cannot acknowledge the efforts of BMW to keep the mini brand alive in the modern age (albeit some would say it is just leveraging off the brand that is the classic mini.)
Classic mini owners can also acknowledge that bini owners share some of the mini "spirit" with us, but I think it is unfair of bini owners just to think they can simply "join the club". We can certainly be friends and respect each other's choices of car, but that's where the relationship generally stops.
If I was to flash every bini I see, then I may as well flash every (modern) car on the road...because the shared "mini" name is simply not enough to make us part of the same fraturnity.
