Interesting I was going to go with the solid pressed front panel.

Might just get the saloon + weld on grill then.

Pressed ones about 170-odd quid from M-Machine isnt it?

Had to salvage my original front panel as the 1960 version is different to the pressed ones you buy, even the 1961 pressing is wrong.

they go on the bottom corners to fit the cut outs on the newer panels so you get a straight line across the bottom

Clamped one on

Tomorrow I will be clamping the whole front on welding both scuttle closers on and welding the front panel on!

It only fits well because you aren't putting it up against the front panel ;)

Good to see more progress, any idea on a competition date or still too far away to think about?

Haha yeh I will do a mock up tomorrow with front panel bolted on hopefully it will be fine! Im used to non gen front ends so these will be like a holiday !

I hope to get it done by mid August time as I have the legendary grand tour on the bank holiday. I can't go to that in a metro!

Today I have got quite alot done but haven't welded any of the front on as I want to make sure it's right! Measure twice cut once !
So to begin with I sorted the scuttle closers both sides! Believe it or not the non gen one fitted better

BE54E191-2C95-496F-A445-8AD55D504098-315
Then I bolted the front panel on and tryed on the wings and bonnet ! I need a new bonnet!

Wing gap drivers side is perfect after some adjustment :D

Front is ok ish need to give the front panel edge a good going over with the hammer and dolly!

I started the p/s will update tomorrow when I get the front panel welded on!

Ryan,

keep missing your progress following the re jig of the forum.  Front end looks to have gone well,  nice gaps on the wing you have shown and front seam.   Before you get a new bonnet,  what are your side gaps and rear gap like??  The front gap to slam panel can be sorted using welded filler strips and a little filler to get it as you want.  A new / fleabay bonnet may fit no better,  just a thought !!

Good progress tho !

Graham

Cheers mate! :)
I won't be gettin a new bonnet just yet it's just rusted along the front inner edge and fillered from the front! I will get a second hand genuine bonnet not one of the non gen odd fitting ones! I will be using the welding rod method to sort my door gaps out later on! I have done it before at work a few times :D
The side gaps are a bit tight and the back edge looks fine so I will make sure I get them correct before welding it up.
