Hillclimbs and sprints see DEWSC.org.uk and click on the speed series. The majority of venues we use are in the South, although we went to Prescott this year and one of our members went to Harewood. Next year we have been invited to Loton Park in Shropshire. Most of our members use minis, although there are classes for other cars.

We are a friendly laidback group with a concentration of members in Hampshire/Dorset. Having our own class at venues we attend means that almost any modifications are acceptable. The amount of changes required to prepare a mini to comply with the safety regulations are fairly small meaning that this is one of the most accessible froms of motorsport.

Who's entering what this year???

Be good to get an idea of what events people are entering to maximize interest and also spectator potential.

Also, any ideas or interest in a TMF motorsport event of some sort....a sprint or autosolo or trackday???

Kat7Racing are competing in the Mini7 Challenge 2013, we will be doing the full season including the Zolder weekend in Belgium

Calendar as follows:

13th & 14th April 2013: Donington Park
11th & 12th May 2013: Rockingham Raceway
22nd & 23rd June 2013: Brands Hatch
13th & 14th July 2013: Snetterton
17th & 18th August: Zolder ( Belgium )
21st & 22nd September: Brands Hatch

All this info and more on the Clubs website at www.mini7.co.uk or on my site at www.Kat7Racing.co.uk

Their is a groundswell of opinion in the club that we should be promoting the club to a greater degree. Maybe their are people interested in the racing and the cars but would be concerned to ask about it. Well Ill hold my hand up and say none of us bite and we will always be happy to talk about the cars. If you want any information please feel free to ask or if we are at a meeting just come up and say hello..... the only time we might struggle is if we are getting ready to go out on track :-)

The Mini7 Racing Club is the oldest single make series in the Country having started in 1966. Today the cars are modified 998's as Mini7's and modified 1275's as Miglias.

Their are also S classes in both 7's and Migs.... these are less highly tuned and consequently lower cost. The cost to race depends on your ability to maintain the car at the end of the day. If you can build an engine to a high standard, if you have some mechanical 'sympathy' and if you understand the way the electrical system works then the cost to race is low and the enjoyment exceptionally high. if you cant do any maintenance then the cost to race is the same PLUS the labour charge because that maintanance has to be done.

If you ARE interested in racing, what it costs, what you need to do to get started etc etc.... Please feel free to ask and Ill do my best to either answer or point you in the right direction.

If you see us at a meeting then just come over and say hello and tell us you saw us on TMF.

Kat7Racing run car number 63 ... as Ive got engine out Im just off to pull the gearbox apart now.... back later

Dave

good luck Dave and team Kat7Racing for the next season.

it'd be great to see an after event report or write up here, things like that will definitely convince TMF admins to get a Motorsport section on forum.

On another note, lots of Marshals are still needed for the Xpart Endurance Rally on Saturday 16th February, based around Bury St Edmunds (Suffolk).
Info on the event can be found here http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/Endurance

If you think you can help, please contact Samm Keeley (Chief Marshal) on [email protected] or send me a PM and I'll contact her on your behalf.

If you don't know what Endurance Rallying is about have a look at this promotional ERRC video.

and by the way, is Cooperman aware of this thread? maybe the thread title could be change to something including 'Motorsport' as some people might not feel identified with the term 'racers'.

Deathrow suggested I copy this from a different post to this post, a bit of feedback (and hopefully encouragement) into building a Motorsport Section within TMF...

I think a motorsport section would be a good idea, more indepth discussion about the different race types etc, and would give people looking in to racing minis somewhere to start and somewhere to ask specific questions to those in the know.

I think it would also bring a different type of Mini driver to the forum, as it is mainly the road-going guys and gals that log in.

Theres a section for ICE & Security, but things have moved on from the start of the century. There are many more people taking their cars on track and racing them than there are building big installs nowadays. And the variety of racing is huge. I mean, there's autograss, short circuit, long circuit, rallycross, rally, autocross, drag aswell as the track days too. I believe it would be very beneficial to both newbies to racing and the veterans to share their experiences.

I don't think this post alone gets enough publicity to motorsport in Minis, Ive missed it until now. I think incorporating 1 thread/post with all Mini racing events on within the section would be a good idea too. 1 person could take responsibility for that thread and members can PM that person to update the thread with the events that they know about but have not been included. I don't mind taking responsibility for the thread. Basically one comprehensive list of events that Mini owners & racers may be interested in both on track and behind the fence instead of individual lists as in this thread. If a member is competing in a specific event then their name could be added next to the event too.

If there were to be a Motorsport section I wouldn't mind being a candidate for becoming moderator if one is needed?

Dan :-)

In my personal opinion, the above would work very well and is the way I was thinking we'd work it Dave.

We do need to put it to the vote in the admin section though. There's certainly interest in here for it.

Again as part of the research into it, what we could do with is a list of sub-sections that people would be interested in, for example:

Mini 7
Mini Miglia
Autograss
Rallies
Auto Solo
Track Days
Banger racing :P

Anything else that's Mini related racing and that would have enough interest for us to create a section.

I would put banger as short oval racing as that cover mini stox, mini rods, as there is about 4/5 different types of regulations.
Also have hillclimb/ sprinting, and a section for national club racing as there loads of championships that minis race in but there not a 1 make series, for example I race in the classic sports car club with my mini but race against midgets, ford anglias, tvr's to db4 Aston Martin.
Plus historic's per 66 and masters, classic touring car racing club
