Just a little thanx to everyone that's offered advice and a friendly ear, it's appreciated. The mini mag editor wasnt wrong when they said the mini community are a welcoming helpful bunch (or words to that effect)

Wow, just been reading this thread. Sorry to hear that honest people have parted with their hard earned cash and have had little to no results back. I do remember when first looking for a Mini to buy he (beej123) was selling his Red one with black arches. I enquired him about the car, at first he said it had little work needed on it, then I got interested and suddently all these others problems started to be pointed out. Lukily, my dad saw sense in me and told me to stay clear of it, thankfully dodged a bullet there! Hope everyone whos been affected will get their money that is due to them, I'm all for second chances but it's down to him to solve it and rectify his errors.

Sorry for the delay guys! Visiting sis! Ok so met up with James, the mini's been stripped fully, engines out, or pretty close to it, he's started on the rust or lil parts of it, so at least its going ahead, his new partner or helper craig with be sorting the rest of the rust out, then hopefully should be going in the spray shop next week, thursday time, I'll be going up regularly to check on progress! But for the moment looks promising, asked a few questions bout worrys and things I've read which he answered, so for the time being all is well, of course I will up date bit by bit. Fingers crossed all stays on course from this point on

I have had dealings with him. The work was great. Not his though I hasten to add, however I forgot my receipt. After multiple promises of "ill drop it round" it never materialised. And yes, he is basically a kid playing business.

Just a little something to give you an idea of James' mentality - he and his mates running the garage decided to set up a monthly mini meet there at the start of last summer, so I went along and had the chance to chat with him a few times. Needless to say that after 3 meets he and his mates couldn't be bothered to do it anymore and didn't tell anyone, so four of us (me and three other mates in their minis) drove for 45 mins to get there only to find it was closed... anyway, what I was actually going to say was that when I was there one weekend, they had a mini in for a complete strip down and restoration up on the ramps, and I noticed it had oversills on it:

Me - "So James, I see there's oversills on this shell, I assume you'll be ripping them off and putting proper ones on?"
James - "No I just put those on, normal sills are **** they just let in water and allow it all to rust. If you take off the old sills and fit oversills, welded up all the way round, then water can't get in and it doesn't rust."
Me - "err..."

I know there is a lot of debate about sills/oversills, but I'm sure most of you on here wouldn't dream of putting them on your mini... and he's "restoring" other peoples Minis with this mentality, as part of his business?

I'll be honest lol! I no next to Sod all about engInes, I no where to put the fuel water and how to turn in on and drive! *wow I sound pathetic* but I'm trying to learn! I do have someone recommended to me very recently infact who will check all work after James has finished. And I've seen the work he does which is cheap and of a high high quality. Nicky walker? Don't no if anyone knows him. So I will contact him soon I'm sure he'll be up for some work coming his way!

I had an argument with him about oversills too after he posted photo's of him putting them on a customers Mini (well, actually, his welder did - you would have thought a Mini ''specialist'' would be able to weld).

Theres other places to discuss oversills...not on this topic page.
Mod could tidy up the thread?

The clinic is down the road from me, wouldn't go near purely as its obviously kids playing mechanics
