From what I know, small claims is reasonably inexpensive to get procedures up and running initially anyway, if I chose to take that route. It becomes expensive if the other side doesn't pay and you then press forward with more paperwork to have the matter unforced, there's many people who even if the courts have ruled in there favour and awarded money and compensation, never get paid, the only thing that would possibly go in my favour on this, is if he has had previous rulings against him on similar or the same even if the money or work is below £5000, due to certain circumstances it could be considered fraud, this would be because of certain issues when handling transactions etc, I am and will be looking into my rights on this further as a precautionary measure, as to be honest I'm getting more frustrated, in the mean time stupidly or not he has one last chance to complete in a reasonable deadline, I'm just hoping he feels the need to redeem his reputation and prove that whatever problems he had in the past are just that. We'll see!!!!!!

I'll be honest I wouldn't even consider paying James another penny, get your car out of there, you'll just be chucking good money after bad.

Also, if it all comes to light in court, the inland revenue may get interested and they ALWAYS get their cut first.

This is a message ive just received from James,

Just to let you know the welder has stripped the wing off this morning and the front panel and scuttle are in pretty bad shape below the surface. We can use a repair panel or the scuttle but the front panel will need to be replaced.

Is this right after having the car for 5 months????? It just seems after holding back the payment more seems to be going wrong, what price could I be looking at for this?
I've going to be getting the owner from John speed racing to come up with me, he's a good friend of someone I know, he can assess this better than me

I just want this chap to come down and assess it, and what the work that's been done is worth, I'll then be asking for my money back I believe, just cant afford the loss, I'm not a money pit lol

5 months, I'd wouldn't want to know how long the tea breaks were. There was me being disappointed in getting engine and rear subframe swaps done in 8 to 9 hours on the drive. Or 2 days to remove an engine, front subframe and all metalwork forward of the windscreen.

I don't think you'll get anywhere with this to be honest, the more I hear the less confidence I have. As far as I know its just James now and Carl has nothing to do with it. Last time I heard(before James unfriended me on facebook!!) was that he had a 9-5 job in insurance.

That now makes this a weekend only operation(at best). Carl at least had some knowledge, James doesn't know one end of a spanner from another.

Swallow the loss and take as much stuff away with your car as you can!!

5 months in and the wing has just come off?

It'll take 2 months to put one wheel on!

Our club refuses to use a local company after he had a mini for years. I still don't think he has it back.
More patient than I am thats for sure!

Sometimes you have to give people a chance but often a bad egg wont turn out good. Cut your losses and move on mate.
There are plenty of good eggs that will take on the job and do you proud.

Many start up businesses on this very forum who would be willing to save you some strife.

Think about it... Are you really ever going to be happy with the work on this car?

Bail out.

Metaphorically speaking, you're currently doing 200mph straight towards a wall whilst un buckling your seat belt. Its destin to go wrong, bail.

Get the car, small claims, find a reputable worker to do it!
