What do you know about the history of the car? Did the previous owner mention anything about replacing the engine at all?

How would I be able to find out if the engine has been changed mate?

It was just a thought that if it had a Metro engine fitted that this might be as daft as it not having the heater outlet in the head drilled out before the tap was fitted (Metro heater system works differently despite the engine being essentially the same).

I've been leaning towards the same conclusion myself, although it would seem to be ridiculous.

The engine number would be a good place to start to check originality. Just to satisfy our curiosity, remove the valve from the head and look to see if the port it fits to is actually drilled through.

we disconnected the heater pipes in turn, made them the highest point and filled them with a funnel! A few squeezes of pipes, lots of bubbles and now there are hot heaters!

check the coolant level in a day or 2 in case any more air works its way to the radiator!

Well everyone is asking all these things like, air locks and checking thermostats but, no-one has bothered to check if you have twisted the knob for the heater controls to Hot properly.

What Mini have yougot Noah, in over 30 years I'm yet to see a mini with a twist control ? all the heater controls Iv'e used, sold or fitted have been pull and push only to operate.

Are you sure you haven't got some modified unit ?
