What do you know about the history of the car? Did the previous owner mention anything about replacing the engine at all?
How would I be able to find out if the engine has been changed mate?

I've been leaning towards the same conclusion myself, although it would seem to be ridiculous.
The engine number would be a good place to start to check originality. Just to satisfy our curiosity, remove the valve from the head and look to see if the port it fits to is actually drilled through.

Like an oven on the way home! We used the other mini as a donor car so I have a temperature gauge tooi had a trip to yorkshire today, it appears the car has a faulty temp sensor, and had a massive air lock in the matrix which we fixed with a funnel!
all working now!

check the coolant level in a day or 2 in case any more air works its way to the radiator!

Well everyone is asking all these things like, air locks and checking thermostats but, no-one has bothered to check if you have twisted the knob for the heater controls to Hot properly.
