After sorting out a lot of bodged wiring on my 1983 Austin mini city, I am now on the home stretch  :-)

I found these wires behind my dials and having looked at some wiring diagrams I'm still not too sure what they are for.

I have two thick green wires going into one female spade terminal.

There is also a Light Green wire with either purple or brown tracer. (Possible even pink if you use your imagination

On a related note, could someone advise me which page in the haynes manual most accurately matches the wiring on an 83' city E?

Thanks

Yours falls in the same wiring diagram as my 1980 and I use wiring diagram no 11 which is 76-on UK cars which covers upto the next change of 1984.

The Greens are usually switched 12v feeds and I suspect the other wire is a LG/N-  Light Green with brown tracer wich points towards the flasher circuit on the flasher unit. do you have a flasher unit wired up ?

Well everything seems to work atm apart from the park switch but I don't think they're related. It looks as though the loom could have been changed at one point? Is it possible that these wires are for ancillaries such as clocks or cigarette lighters?

The solid green is a switched 12v supply, some had the flasher unit inside the car, where abouts is your flasher unit mines outside on my 1980 car on the firewall

Yeah, the hazard flasher is on the bulkhead in the engine bay, the indicator one dangles majestically by the steering column.

What's connected to your indicator flasher then?  The cables you have found very much sound like they are the indicator flasher connection.

My indicator flasher is wired in and working, but as I said, the loom could have been butchered and messed with in the past.
