Okay so about a week ago I was told that when braking my front side lights would come on, so I check and confirmed this. also my dipped beam weren't working.

When I looked under the bonnet I found a loose wire and a bullet connecter with a wire wrapped around it, So I connected the wire back up here to see if it would fix the problem and it did.

Now the problem is that my dipped beam still are not working and when I use full beam the off side works fine but the nearside dulls out and the side light and the full beam struggle to light up.

1978 1000.

Thanks guys!

More information, the wire that was wrapped around the bullet connecter was a red and green wire from the NS and the loose wire was also a green and red wire from the NS.

Sounds like a bad earth you need to check the connectors on the back of the headlights and the connectors behind the slam panel/grill area, also the main earth point which is usually on the drivers inner wing.

If the brake lighs bring the sidelights on, the fault is definitely a bad earth at the rear. Nothing at the front can cause that to happen. The reason that it seems to have gone away is that by reconnecting the bullet connector, the return current from the brake lights has more places to go, so produces less of a glow in the lamps which are not supposed to be on.

You need to check that the black wires from the rear light clusters are all correctly connected to earth via the bullet connectors in the boot.

For safety's sake I always strongly recommend fitting an extra earth at the front, and earthing the left and right headlights seperately. Headlighs failing suddenly in a dark night can be fatal. It is often caused by the common earth failing somewhere, often due to a corroded bullet connector behind the grille.
