He put another dual mass in, I think it was about £400 parts, the rest fitting. He was on holiday at the time spi don't think he had much choice where he went. Turbo also went this year but I helped him do that so it wasn't TOO expensive.Mate has just had the clutch done on his. He needed a new flywheel as well which is quite common I believe. Cost him just shy of £1200!I use my 2004 TDCI Focus every day and do a lot of miles. I have had mine from new and its on around 170,000 miles and has been pretty good.
They are dirt cheap as they are getting old now but I get over 60 miles to the gallon.
I service it myself and so far the only non service parts I have changed are:
Front suspension links £20
Front and rear brake discs £50
Battery £40
Intercooler hoses £60
Cam sensor £15
4x injectors £400
Yes its a dual mass flywheel. £120 for the parts; that sounds like a lot of fitting costs. I stopped using Ford Main dealers after the warranty period.

I had a merc W203 hairdresser mobile - it was very economic and would be cheap to buy now - they fly along well enough with 150 hp.
When they start to go wrong, they can be a real headache - my high pressure CDI pump had started weeping when it was cold, and the main cat had to be filleted out with a kango, not to mention numerous grief with SRS system components.

I can thoroughly recommend diesel Golfs. As Sonikk said, Bluemotion gets you 65mpg. They are extremely reliable cars and I have found them easy to work on myself.

A Ford gets my vote. The 2.0 TDCi is a great engine. Mine gets 55mpg in a bulky Mondeo. It will do much better in the Focus no doubt.

I find the VW TDIs horrifically rough / noisy.
Try a 6 cylinder BMW diesel. So much nicer.

It was in the news the other day that because of the price of diesel, you have to do 100,000 miles before you see any benefit of diesel over petrol.
So why not go for petrol?
