My apologies I overlooked you saying it was a Metro Turbo unit.

Taken from the Lucas Parts Catalogue
This is the last of the Lucas Type distributors 59D that still used points. The latest model blue points are used as well as the GDC136 distributor cap. Fits only A+ 998 1275cc engine blocks that use a single bolt to hold the distributor clamp. comes complete with Points Condenser and Rotor Arm.

There was an electronic 59, as said most likely to be encountered on an early Metty Turbo engine. It was also standard eqpt on 1.3 Mony's & Maestros. If it is a turbo then the chances someone's been tinkering to limit the advance are stronger.

im currently using a 59D distributor with a 45D center baseplate and red contact points.. the reason because its expansive to get the 59D blue contact points here in malaysia.. and by the way 59D comes with blue contact points as opposed to the leccy ignition you're talking about DILLIGAF, i would say its harder to find electric ones as opposed to points.. and thats why they came up with the conversion units.. correct me if im wrong :)

Like I've said repeatedly, I haven't seen one..............All the 59's I've seen have been electronic..........I know you can buy the points, but I've yet to come across one actually fitted to a mini...........
I find that unbelievable ? then you must live near where they dumped all the stock of the rare electronics ones on a dealer at the end of production. I bet if you stopped every mini at the L2B run you would see loads of 59Ds on points and be surprised if you saw very many electronic ones, well in a Mini?

Is this another case of semantics...
We all know the revised version of the type 45 dizzy, with wiper points, as a 59 - 59D4 to be precise.
Some of us will have seen the the 59DM4 https://lh5.ggpht.co...tHDomCtVlg=s113 - though the type 65 had replaced it before Rover put electronic ignition on any Minis.
Always thought it was a tad ironic, after all those years of people slating soggy A Series ignitions, that the first thing they fitted with electronic was a car with the engine turned round!
