Hi all right made at start again. Started where I left off and that is with the passenger side over sill issue. Started to cut back and get the inner sill ready for some new metal have to admit she is worse than I thought in this department. Some pics to do the talking.

This is as far as I got more to come. It has got to be said I hate over sills.... The amount of damage they cause and cover is mental.

Nice bit of work you have there, I have oversills on mine and I've just having the rear arches boot etc welded so I'm going to leave them on for a while, but i have a feeling that's what i may face when i get them off!

Thanks for the comments, Yeah quite a few minis out there have them which is a shame my clubby does as does my girlfriends mini both of which will get sorted as soon as we can.. They just rot more and more that's the only probably with them.

Sounds like your having a far amount of welding the back of your car. Hope it all goes well.

Thanks James.

Well it has been quite for 18 months or so due a storage issue and not being able to get to the car as it was blocked in lol but she is back in my garage and should get at least a day a week to get on with it. I will try and keep posting, want to have the bulk of the welding done before xmas hopefully leaving the door skins for the new year :)

Managed to get some more done today started with prepping the repair pieces ready to make the inner sill solid again. The inner sill is now all welded up, etch primed and seam sealed we are so very nearly ready for the new sill.

The aim is to have both sills and inner sills sorted in the next few weeks and then I will stone chip the floor pans.

Made a repair section up for the rear part of the inner sill

3bdc24bb8c326b97b9e31898fa1a2b90_zpssdta
Ground back and etch primed up, ready for some weld seal. I have done the whole of the inner sill so all holes are gone but forgot to get a picture of the middle bit.

Last job of the day was to weld up the hole where the jacking point would have been, I have removed mine as it was rotten and I wouldn't ever want to use it, I always carry a proper jack in the boot in my cars as they are much safer. The sill just needs some holes drilling and then we are ready to fit up.

Can't wait to finish this side then over to the other side to start all over again lol

Yeah thats the other idea i have been looking at... then its not so perminant i suppose

I just bought blanking plates and fitted them in place. A little bead of PU sealant around the face where it meets the body does the job of sealing it all up nicely, then a good coating of Bilthamber UC clear wax to protect. Easier than welding up and reversable!

Spiguy, this is what I did on the end bolted some blacking plates in and before screwing down I put sealant all the way round them once in went back round it again, would like to think nothing is getting in lol

Thanks for the comments

Update time,

I now have the sill on the passenger side and the repairs all done, I am quite happy with it, need to tidy the underneath up still where the old sill went but so happy that that is one side done and solid again, everything has been sealed and zinc primed. Also cleaned door step up and primed that.
Next job is over to the other side to start the same process again this time I can see there has been a previous repair that just looks terrible so that will come out as well.

Pics of progress, comments welcome :)

Clamped up and ready to go,

Plug welded up.

Ground back the welds.

The sill is on well happy no more over sills this side
87bba95846e26d115ac32f8b40703e22_zpsvqkc
All primed up to protect it all still need to tidy rest of floor up ready for some stone chip but will stone chip the whole floor once the other side done.

Cleaned off any surface rust off the door step area treated primed again

Looking good. Must be a good feeling to know it's not far off from being a tidy shell
