ENGINE BUILT BUY TMF MEMBER KAPPA

Hi guys

I can't turn my engine over by hand with the crank pulley, i can however turn the flywheel but this doesn't move the crank pulley. The flywheel nut moves with the flywheel so i don't think its loose.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

Really doesnt make any sense.

if the flywheel is turning so to should the bottom engine pulley as they are connect via the crank.

if this is the case.

either the woodworth key on the pulley end is broke or missing or the crank has snapped

If you turn the flywheel and its secured correctly on the crank and the crank pulley stays stationary then you have either a broken crankshaft or the wodruff key in the pulley stripped, you normally wont have enough leverage on the crank pulley to turn it over

My thoughts exactly the same Miglia you type faster though

Lets just hope the woodruth key is just missing or broken.

Never checked this before how do i go about it? i will go get a quick photo with the crank pulley off just for a better explanation.

Cheers

Put a spanner on the bottom pulley bolt and see if the engine turns over with that

No its only just been built so never been run.

Yes i can turn the flywheel with a screwdriver in the starter housing (no starter motor on it just yet)

sounds strange that the fly turns so easy,

take the plugs out and see if the pistons are moving up and down on all 4.

if not the crank has snapped or its on on correctly,

Just looked to see if the pistons move with the fly, they don't so flywheel loose?

If the crank was snapped surely the pulley side would move a little?

I know the engine has had new big end and small end bearings as well as conrods which could explain the not turning over is they have been tightened too much.

If the crank and flywheel are locked up correctly then the pistons and pulley have to turn (unless the cranks broken between no 4 and the rear main bearing) if you rotate the flywheel, is the motor in th car? if not whip the clutch cover off and see whats going on
