Nice project build mate, looking good. For some cheap U/J's for an internal rod change I'm sure I saw an article once where somebody used 3/8 drive socket U/J's. You can buy good quality Blue Point ones on e-bay that won't fall to bits. I wouldn't mind doing this Mod but not sure how the geometry would work or if some thread adjustment would be required.

I have 45DCOE on the short Maniflow manifold on my Mini. Swiftune said they didn't see a lot of difference between the short manifold and the longer one so I opted for this to fit the space with a decent size air filter. (I wouldn't run without one) I have a bulkhead box for the clearance and a Ramair foam filter with Specialised Components radius ram pipes inside. I got 96bhp on the Rolling Road from 1310cc which is pretty good.

I have experienced carb icing when driving back from events on a steady throttle when maybe the outside temp is around 4-5 degrees. The car ground to a complete standstill on a busy motorway which wasn't fun so it is a problem to watch out for.

Thanks for your comments KAJ ;)

Been doing a little wiring, iv been dreading it but needs must.

Started off by pinning up the loom and chopping  things off and adding extra cable.

Not the best of pictures but look closely and you'll get the idea

Hoping to get enough done on the loom so i can start the engine up  tomorrow/Sunday.Mini Sport sent me another radiator which fitted perfectly along with Group A adjustable suspension front and back. Vicky (fiancé) has been really supportive with me out in the shed until all hours so i think i best treat her to a Mcdonalds or something over the weekend ;)

Well the tank has fuel, ignition system fitted and creates a spark all being well i should have her running today.Just need some luck with the carburettors iv bought. I had the engine turning over last night and hoped i would see the oil pressure gauge move a little, not sure if the engine cranking by means of the battery is enough and that she will need to fire to create enough pressure.

One more mug of coffee and then I'm off to the shed, wish me luck ;)

I had this issue

You have to be brave and let it turn over for a while, it's scary doing it but it takes a few mins for pressure to turn up.

It's just because it's a fresh build and of course it needs to get suction from the pump to pull all the oil round

Im getting a very satisfying 55-60psi ;)

As the Rugby is on getting the Mini started will have to wait ;)

Rushed home after work to fit the exhaust and plum in cooling system as my mate was calling up to have a look why i could not line up the rotor  to No 1 on the Distributor.

Mike also failed so he made No 2 position No1 and so on, Simple solution ;) Cant buy experience !!

SHE'S ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_1470_zps285bd254.jpg

After a couple of small adjustment's it was time to turn the key, iv never been so glad to hear a engine start in all my life :)

We got the engine warm and sorted out the tick over then adjusted the advance.

Music to my ears !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   No water leaks or oil leaks.

I'll be booking the Mini in for test 22/03/14 so lots to do in a small amount of time, Mikes offered to lend me a hand next weekend to help fit the doors and other two man jobs. Still lots to do to finish the electrics ;(

I'll sleep well tonight  :D
