Hi Everyone,

New to the forum so forgive me if im posting this in the wrong place!

My father-in-law has recently passed down his 1978 850cc mini for me to restore to its once former beauty,

I'm getting along nicely and got the engine running sweet as a nut but having an issue with the indicators.

managed to trace the wires and sort out any bad earths etc but having an issue from the indicator stalk. I replaced it with a brand new one as it fell apart in my hands.

I can either have the left indicator working or if I sap the wires over I can have the right one working.

Has anyone got any sugegstions?

I have also replaced both Flasher Relays.

Many thanks

Matt

You can see the contacts on the switch (brass rods & rivets) so test continuity to the connector terminals.

Fitted a new hazard switch as a lot of the forums are saying this is a common fault but still no luck. I bought a multimeter yesterday to test the power for it all. Will have a play at the weekend and let you know how I get on. Seems a bit odd that the left will work or if I swap the wires around on the block by the steering column the right will work?
Any suggestions?

Cheers
Matt

If you swap the wires and it works then this points to a fault in the switching contacts, check the feed in and left/right out.

Here is the circuit, trace the voltages in and out the switch

FIXED IT!!!!

After the hours and hours I spent tracing wires and cleaning earth I finally fixed it!

It was all down to the wires on the back of the little green light that goes into the speedo to show the indicators are working,

The bulb holder got replaced and when fitting the new one the wires weren't connected properly, throwing the whole circuit out for the right hand side.

Now all sorted and after hours of peeling like a complete numpty its done and MOT in a few days.
