Yeh it can be full of arguements, yeh information cant be stored blah blah...

I hardly see it as splitting it from main forum, fact is its just incredibly handy whilst on the move, id want nice sweet short quick chat.. or may just taken photo and fancied sharing it.. but didnt want hassle of making a topic/ uploading it.

I mean its not like your calling the FB page something entirely different.. its still named after the forum, so people would use as way direct way to tbe forum

Its funny as i use to bate facebook.. i only signed up last year as it was benificial to my business, a tool to attract and show off my work etc... Its handle too even if it is full of ****... who cares

It was originally for the big down time we had and so it enabled members to manage their for sale items etc over that period.

It's turned into something that it was never designed for, too many arguements, a lot if spam, people not reading the pinned post with regards to selling, non main forum members and so on.

We have enough coverage on the main forum for everything that TMF is about, the FB page was degenerating into something else and when we started to get comments saying how the FB page detracted from the main forum then it's run it's course.

I guess another point is that the TMF forum will have a financial value should the owner/owners wish to sell it. Obviously, they don't own the Facebook group and if the Facebook group is being for technical questions at the expense of the forum, it will devalue the forum financially and it is not unreasonable for the owner/owners to wish to protect the financial value of TMF. Likewise for forum sponsors, it is seems reasonable and fair to their investment in the TMF forum to remove the Facebook group to protect their sponsorship. Personally I feel some of the reasons given to close the Facebook group are a bit weak, but I can't argue with the owner/owners right to protect the financial value of the forum and to me that does seem reasonable and make sense.

For those who are interested, here's what's being said on the TMF Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/132308628195/10152035407563196/?comment_id=10152036255198196¬if_t=group_comment_reply

It's got absolutely nothing to do with money/value.

Sorry, but suggesting that it's being done because it's financially beneficial is really way off the mark. None of us have ANY interest in selling the forum.

In fact, I find it rather insulting that there's even a suggestion that any of us are in it for the money. It's only ever been a hobby. It's here because we are all Mini owners.

The amount of time/effort we put into this forum for no financial gain at all. All we ever get is called jumped up, get called Nazis when we close threads, now we're getting suggestions that we're closing the Facebook group to make the forum more valuable. I really do give up!

Just to add to this, TMF staff and admin still pay their TMF+ membership like everyone else, there's no financial gain for the time spent, its done as a hobby!

How rude!
Im just stuck for words. If I wanted to sell tmf I would have done it years ago. Some things are worth more than money ie the teams of people all giving up there spare time to help The Mini Forum keep going. You can say things like that. No one makes a penny from tmf, which just proves you know nothing about the forum.

Fb page will close for reasons posted above. They are honest reasons. We do not lie or make stuff up. My teams all work very hard to give you a FREE service to help YOU keep in touch with the Mini world and to give you the best advise and deals for your minis. Please do not insult them with some of the rude comments ive seen above. Please dont bite the hand that feeds you. No supporting team, no TMF.

I use both the forum and FB but I must admit i prefer the forum to the FB page,

We live in a time where people want things straight away, It must be now or never so to speak and I feel the FB page is a prime example of this,

I appreciate the mods do a fantast job taking time out voluntary but its not enough here on this page, It would need to be monitored constantly to make things run smoothly and all the negative comments and advice given here on the FB page is a reflection on the main forum itself,

In all fairness i wouldn't miss it, I would just spend more time on the main forum.

my 2 pence worth:

I've moved away from the forum, and forums in general, I just find them a bit "stale" now I guess,(awaits someone telling me to get lost then if I don't like it)with posts full of "if you'd done a search it's already been asked" etc etc etc, there are only so many technical questions that can be asked on a subject before every new question gets the generic "search for it" reply, at that point the chat stops, the community feel starts to lessen.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is this, facebook connects you with a lot more people a lot faster, I know I cant be the only one that only uses the FB group and not the forum. If you need a quick answer (say you're down the garage on your phone trying to get a timing figure for a 998 because you're running late and have just had to switch your points for an electronic ignition module) facebook is just more convenient. It's a community just like this forum, but more "personal" gives you the ability to actual have more of a social interaction with members than the forum may allow (easily posting pictures, friend requests, seeing you have other common interests with people, that kind of thing) The argument i've read on here about "the facebook group creates a divide between the people who use it and the people who dont" isn't a great argument imo, everybody has the choice to use it if they wish, deleting it completely removes that choice, and loses a whole group of people who no longer use the forum, and whats more, i dont think removing it will bring them back. The general consensus on here is "facebook is rubbish, delete the whole lot rah rah rah!" because you're asking the question to only one side of the coin.

anyway, that's my opinion. The Facebook group adds to the TMF experience, it's fresher, more convenient, a bit more light hearted and an incredibly useful tool. I'll be sad to see it's closure and I think TMF will be a poorer community without it. Now, I put my helmet on and await the firing squad!
