Now, I put my helmet on and await the firing squad!

I won't be getting my gun out the cabinet!

The problem with both the forum and TMF is some people don't consider how their replies may be taken by others, or don't care!

This then causes issues which need moderator intervention and creates work!

Thankfully I'm not a moderator on the Facebook page, but I know I've created them work in the past by posting links to eBay auctions which I knew was against the rules!

Everyone is entitled to a valid opinion. Yours is a valid opinion and not rude in anyway.
The problem is to keep it a usable group on fb requires almost minute by minute checking. All of us are forever removing members and for sale ads/alot of fb spam from there.

now because we also spend alot of time on fb we remove most things before many really see it. What you look at is a good clean fb group. But really it takes alot of time and evenings keeping it like that.
It wasnt set up for that reason but over the years its grown and not getting beyond where we wanted it to go. Its time killing enough to keep tmf clean without adding another dimension. So thats one reason its being closed.
Blame the people who ruined it for others if theres a blame to be given.

Even now im on there removing spamming sales posts.

In fact, I find it rather insulting that there's even a suggestion that any of us are in it for the money. It's only ever been a hobby. It's here because we are all Mini owners.
The amount of time/effort we put into this forum for no financial gain at all. All we ever get is called jumped up, get called Nazis when we close threads, now we're getting suggestions that we're closing the Facebook group to make the forum more valuable. I really do give up!

I am honestly sorry if I have insulted, upset, annoyed etc admins, mods, members of the forum - that was never my intention. I offer a full and wholehearted apology as that was absolutely not the purpose of my post. I'm sorry that it's felt that my post may have appeared in have insinuated that I thought that people were in it for the money and that I may have considered you money grabbing - that's not what I meant or what I think. Likewise, I wasn't trying to imply that the owner was looking to sell the forum and so that's why the decision had been made to close the Facebook group.

I know everyone who who manages TMF gives their time for free and I'm grateful for that and having TMF.

In a way, TMF is kinda like my facebook. I don't use any social networking sites. If I need anyone, I either go see them, or phone/text them. I'm on a few forums for different cars and stuff, but mainly my social life is this forum lol. This forum is by far the best and admin, mods etc do a great job. I don't see the need for the facebook group when the forum has everything. Plus if you're on mobile then it's as quick posting things on here than it is on facebook....

I genuinely don't know. I don't suppose it's worth anything as a forum/club. I guess the domain name will have an associated value due to its level of traffic. But those online domain value calculator things seem to be utter codswallop.

The only way it would have a value is if there was a. An owner with the intention to sell it and b. A buyer that wanted a forum for classic Minis that was already setup and had a member base. For b to happen, it'd have to be someone that could run it as a business, which I just can't see happening.

As a side note; I have very, very little to do with the finances and don't want to either. Running the BH2N finances was way more than enough responsibiliy for me. I expect no return whatsoever from TMF either. For me, the only benefit I've ever really got is valued friendship with a good few members on here. That makes all of the effort over the years worthwhile!

That's another interesting point. We've got absolutely no way of knowing if someone has been banned, nor why. Once they're permanently banned we can't undo it. Even if it's a mistake.

I've deleted and permanently banned a few users. But they'd be ones that were either really, really offensive, or the majority of the time they'd be the fake sunglasses and Ugg boot accounts. You might have been swept up in one of them. No way of knowing I'm afraid.

I don't use FB and to be honest never will. Its in decline in the UK and other parts of the world where we have figured out that we still value some privacy.

TMF FB closing will be a positive thing for me as I feel more people will start using the forum and we will gain more content.

Facebook is run by the devil and he sells a little part of your soul everyday to the advertising corporations. Mwoo ha ha ha!

Technical questions are answered fairly quickly on here and theres a great source of knowledge backed up throughout the search function. In the time it takes to farcebook a conversation you could use the search function?

I also think the forum gets ignored a bit because of the TMF group.

I don't see the harm in closing the group really. If its really missed, something else will spring up. There are loads of groups on FB but only one TMF.

Whatever happens, the first priority for the team, in my opinion, should always be the forum over the FB group. And I have no doubts that happens to be fair.

I guess another point is that the TMF forum will have a financial value should the owner/owners wish to sell it. Obviously, they don't own the Facebook group and if the Facebook group is being for technical questions at the expense of the forum, it will devalue the forum financially and it is not unreasonable for the owner/owners to wish to protect the financial value of TMF. Likewise for forum sponsors, it is seems reasonable and fair to their investment in the TMF forum to remove the Facebook group to protect their sponsorship. Personally I feel some of the reasons given to close the Facebook group are a bit weak, but I can't argue with the owner/owners right to protect the financial value of the forum and to me that does seem reasonable and make sense.
For those who are interested, here's what's being said on the TMF Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/132308628195/10152035407563196/?comment_id=10152036255198196¬if_t=group_comment_reply

Nice, at least you had the decency to apologise.

On a personal level I don't use Facebook ,partly because of my chosen career and partly as I take comfort from having a level of privacy, however each to their own.
In terms of the TMF, I hold the belief that the Facebook site and main site had a very clear split, with the Facebook site going largely un checked and attracting some unsavoury characters.

Its interesting to see the differences between the two threads about closing the page down,

The one running here and the one running on facebook.

There are a lot of people posting on the FB page in favour of keeping it open where as I feel there is much more here on the forum who would like to see it closed down,

I for one would rather see it closed it seems to be loaded with youngsters who have no respect and love a conflicting argument.

We should be concentrating on making TMF the best it can be and that means all members putting our efforts into the Forum, Not a sister page.

The clue is within the name, The Mini "Forum"
