ok, all clear now.

It's being closed, tonight. We've added a couple of people as admin to help us close it.

I don't really get the point of a TMF Facebook page. Yes it would be helpful to be able to upload photos from camera phones onto the forum quicker (it really would) but otherwise can't see what FB has to offer which is better than this website.

Perhaps this is the time to look for any improvements to the TMF website - Speed and ease of loading photos would be one as lewBlew says. I would suggest a decent search facility.

We are doing just that, I've already noted that we need to make it easier for users to upload pictures from their mobile devices and in general improve the mobile experience beyond what the standard IP.Board Mobile skin can provide.
As for the search facility, when was the last time you used it? It had a bit of an overhaul about a year ago and is now much quicker and I find it returns much better results. I'd be interested to know what people think of it now.
Need to be able to search for topic titles only in my opinion it would help a lot.

To all those complaining about the search function on here, I think it is more a case of not knowing how to use it.. above poster proving that point. You can search topics only. See the little gear icon next to the search text entry box? Click that. There are a myriad of search functions, including search topics only (in the drop down box a few lines down the page), and all or any words. IPB has the best search engine of all forum software available. I did my research when setting up my own forum and went with IPB for this reason. Just need to know how to use it. I never have a problem finding what I need to know on here!

Image uploads might be a bit of a problem.. .There is an iOS app from IPS (the writers of this board software) which apparently allows you to upload pics from mobiles... actually apparently it doens't.

I can upload to photobucket on my phone, copy the IMG code, and paste it into the text box!

I do it all the time!

The search function isn't the best, but I've always found what I've needed with it

I think you're right there about knowing how to use the search function. I have just about zero IT skills and most of what you've written is gobbledygook to me!

I manage to search by using a combination of TMF's search function and Google. I'm sure I'd get better results if I knew what I was doing, so really it's user error and not an issue with TMF.

I suppose that we might get an awful lot less threads started here about the best oil to use, if the search facility let you search for three letter words like erm "oil"!

It's been able to do that for about 12 months now :).

sixtyeight beat me to it, but yes it already does this. It's actually a very good search system if you have a play with it.

Unfortunately as Matt says, if people create topics called "Help!" then there's not a lot we can do except rely on the post content for the search results. At the end of the day it all comes down to GIGO.

Garbage

In

Garbage

Out

But I hope it's a lot better than it is.

As for image uploads being streamlined I'm sure we can make it better than uploading to Photobucket and pasting across the link. If TMF needs to host the images itself then we will have to throw some money at it and get some storage set up to handle that sort of data.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've used the FB page for help (purely because I was on FB at the time and couldn't be bothered to open a web browser and ask) so no loss to me. People complaining need to get out in the open more, go n drive your Mini. That'll put a smile back on your face

You mean there was a FB page? hehe.

I always come straight on here to find my tech info. So you dont always get a response instantly - chill out and let it come!  Life can be crappy enough without stressing and having arguments!  "Enough with the negative waves Moriartity, she's a Mother beautifull tank!!!"

I actually feel the facebook page was a good place for posting links and images, and a good way of sharing the 'Mini scene' without having to come to a forum.

The more you can integrate what you do online, the better the experience you're going to have. The way I see it is that the group was just a step towards better integration. That said, I completely understand that the technical section is a MUCH better place to get help, and taking questions away from there leads to a loss of resource for us all. I also agree that having things being sold on facebook under the banner of TMF is completely wrong. On here the staff can access conversations and provide evidence to help solve issues between members. They can regulate behaviour. This is something facebook won't allow, which means TMF shouldn't put their name to it. Ultimately it's a brand, and you can't have your brand damaged like that.

Maybe the facebook page should be used more to provide that information to users. I enjoyed seeing people post images of their cars, something I can come on here and see, yes, but sorry to lower the tone here, if I'm on the loo, what app am I going to load up, facebook or the forum? It's going to be facebook because I can also see what my friends are doing. There's certainly a place for a presence on facebook for TMF, and like I say I think the page could pick that up, but there's no cause at all to allow facebook to supersede the forum. I feel, and this is only my opinion, that any users who we have lost to facebook aren't going to be the more valuable ones to our community.

  However, I know where you're coming from on this one!

Some might say Facebook is only fit for loo use!
