Lube the starter up!

It's well lubed! it engages fine, but disengages just before the engine takes over!

Lube the starter up!

Just the wrong thing to do - should be clean and dry only

I always clean my starters with a small amount of wd40, then remove the excess with a rag and reinstall. This way i get no sticking starters :)

WD40d the bendix mechanism, Pinion gear is clean and free from dirt/grease.

Could the starter motor be at fault? not strong enough perhaps?

or would I be looking at a worn ring gear? :X

Ok Bit of an update...It's running!

Starter motor was fine, put a new battery, got some new oil in it and fiddled about with the carb + timing and she starts almost every time!

Only snag is it won't go into gear, but I'm thinking that's due to an old slave cylinder.

Thanks for the help, bloody brilliant :)

Chris
