I think any car of the mini family should be welcome
The hints in the name mini show
So any mini should do weather that's a mini metro or a new MINI I just can't see why people signal out new minis

I can! It doesn't share a single component with a mini! Can I bring a mini bus? That has mini in the name...

The Mk7 VW Golf does not share any components with an original Mk1 VW Golf.........the Mk 7 Ford Fiesta does not share any components with the original Mk1 Ford Fiesta......the New VW Beetle, Fiat 500, Range Rover, etc the same applies, its called progress or model evolution, the Mini just got stuck for 40 years due to BMC/BL/Rover lack of investment in new models, despite Issigonis designing the 9X Mini replacement in 1969.

I think the whole issue with new ones are the issue people have with BMW, When BMW bought out a lot of British companies (mg, rover, etc etc) they stripped them all bare and sold all the assets etc. Whilst also pulling all the trade marks and taking a lot of smaller automotive businesses to court for using those trade marks (why M-Machine is called that and not Mini-Machine I believe).

Due to BMW being a bit of a bully I think that caused a lot of friction with mini owners, other than that I cant see why because the original new BINI was a rover design, but then again there was a lot of friction when the injection minis came out because they 'were not real minis'

It was actually the previous British owners BAe who bought Rover off the goverment for a knock down price and then spent 5 years asset stripping Rovers factory sites and property (they demolished and sold off most of Cowley for a retail shopping park) and then sold the remains to BMW in 1994 for a vast profit. BMW saved the classic Mini from being axed in 1996 with the MPi and invested millions before Rover nearly bankrupted them and eventually sold off MG Rover to the British management (minus the R50 MINI). MG-Rover was then run into the ground by the Phoenix 4 while BMW further  invested in the MINI and Cowley to make it the success of today.

VW also stopped companies ripping off the 'Beetle' trademark and poor quality copy parts......its what big companies do to protect their brands and reputation.....Heritage (BMH) issue licences to legitimate approved classic Mini traders like Minispares on BMW's behalf.

What would it take to wave to a MINI? . . . only takes one finger ;)

I think the waving/light flashing thing comes from the mutual appreciation of owning a classic car, not a run of the mill modern car.

I find that lots of MINI owners tend to think of their car as 'just a car' so don't wave/flash. If one did wave/flash, then I would respond in kind - if nothing else, it would be rude not to!

A few weeks ago, ( while driving my MINI ) I flashed a pukka looking Mini and gave the thumbs up. The driver gave me the wan ker sign. Childish & rather annoying but hey ho. I saw the same car last week while driving our Mini and the guy saw me first and frantically flashed his lights and was smiling. His smile soon vanished when I acknowledged him buy giving him the same sign he gave me. He looked rather confused. I smiled.

There really isnt any need for hate but lets face it, haters gonna hate.

I like them being at the shows and 90% of them are alot nicer to look at than some of the rot box 'classic' minis that some people, for some reason, seem to feel the need to put in shows. I say 90% as the ones and standard coopers are boring to look at. When I had one I never did any shows in it though because I feel it's awkward with how bitchy some classic mini owners are about a better car.

Personally I'd have it as a cool daily and use the classic for shows.

I agree completely. I'd feel more embarrassed turning up in some of the rotters that I've seen at shows than turning up in our MINI.

I never issue hate towards any car people, however, if you're going to hate expect some back in return.

The BINIS are so boring to look at at shows I went to one shows with about 10 of the same car lined up next to each other at least minis have more character to them.

If another driver waves at me, I wave back. Doesn't matter what they're driving.
