My older brother had a mk1 rs2000 and my neighbour had a mk1 lotus cortina in the 80's, a couple of boring old cars neither were more than £3000 at the time today you wouldnt get any change from £50k for the pair. The so called "proper classic cars" like mgbs or triumph spitfires are worth hardly any more now that they were at the same time. Some people stall on what they define as the last classic ie 205 gti, the lads I work with would rather scrap one to fit the lump into a 106 or saxo etc. Guess what, they think the 205 is a boring old car, sound familar?

I'm not too sure about what will ever become a future classic. But it's not because of the particular cars. It's because of society as a whole. We are developing at a ridiculous rate. It won't be too long until the majority of cars are electric, all they need to do is sort out longer lasting batteries. From there, hydrogen cars. Look where we were 20 years ago. Follow the curve and there really is no telling what will be on our roads. I can see what we consider modern cars to be a thing of the past and not on the roads anymore, this giving anything the chance of becoming a classic.

It's been 55 years since the first mini so in just imagine the difference in 20 years time! Future cars to todays cars will be like the difference between modern cars to the little 55 year old mini!

If anyone's seen the program 'Continuum' then the technology they show probably wont be far off the mark, so we'll have cars with anti-gravity propulsion & self drive etc.

there isn't much you could do to make me wave at you in your BINI, If you wave, i'll probably ignore it.

So if i waved/ flashed lights in recongition of your Mini while I was driving either my MINI hatch or the Coupe you would ignore me?

Shame, because when I see a classic Mini, I think nice car, great to see it on the road. Its a shame that people are willing to show predjudice towards me because of what I drive, However it reminds me of my earlier post and that makes me smile.

Unfortunately, that's true about nearly every Classic Mini driver on the road, from what I've seen and experienced.

It's a shame that the Mini scene has to be so spiteful and hateful against other people's cars that they don't like.

I'd just wave goodbye to the power steering pump

The Rover Electro-Hydraulic power steering pump and Rover Midland gearbox were only fitted to early Mk1 R50 MINI's........remember the Mk1 & Mk2 MINI's are not "100% Free of Rover Parts" .........in the same way that any post-1994 classic Mini is not "100% Free of BMW Parts" and built by a BMW Group Company in the handbook......especially of course the 1996 to 2000 classic Mini MPi which was a 100% BMW financed project, instigated by BMW to save the classic Mini from Rovers original Marketing Plan to end production in 1997 due to new EU safety and emissions laws.....BMW were amazed that Rover were planning to kill off their most valuble and iconic British brand after 37 years with no attempt to update it.

i wouldn't wave at a random Mondeo and thats got just as much in common with a classic mini as a BINI. Its not prejudice, its just the way it is.

Bikers nod to each other but a lot won't nod to scooters, smaller bikes, different variants (i.e. sports bikers don't always nod to chopper riders etc)

This is not me making a judgement about you or your choice of car. you drive something different to me... simples. If you stopped me in the street, I'm the nicest guy and will chat to you about your car, my car and anything else that takes your fancy.

If we all liked the same thing, life would be very dull. I think BINI's are bloody expensive for what they are and thats my main issue. Nothing to do with the branding as the new mini.

Its a shame that people are willing to show judgement of my character because i have my own opinion.

To be fair, I think a Classic Mini is more unreliable than a BMW MINI.

Classic mini owners wouldn't wave at him so he got an AA badge so AA men would wave at him...
