BAe could of held on to Rover and invested in new cars for the long term but they chose to cash in after 5 years was up (the minimum period laid down in their contract) and sell out to BMW at a huge profit......BMW then made mistakes by leaving the original Rover management in charge to carry on in the same old ways.....

You don't have to show anyone you're a classic Mini owner - be proud to own a MINI, they're great cars in their own right. I'm not an owner (and I've been a loyal fan of the classic Mini for my whole life), but given the chance to own a MINI I would take it.

I agree completely. I'd feel more embarrassed turning up in some of the rotters that I've seen at shows than turning up in our MINI.
I never issue hate towards any car people, however, if you're going to hate expect some back in return.
Except most Range Rover drivers, they're ;)

Read my post properly, I wasn't hating on anybody, merely making an observation.

Would a 100% rover free sticker be funny or would it just make some of you cry?
Just saying
Well it wouldn't really be true, as Rover had a big part in the original design of the MINI.
A 100% rust free sticker would be more appropriate

there isn't much you could do to make me wave at you in your BINI, If you wave, i'll probably ignore it. You may be lucky though as if my daughter is in the car, she'll wave at anyone and is just happy to be out in a classic bit of automotive history.
I can't understand how the BINI even bears the MINI name, it doesn't meet any of the criteria that made the classic mini great. Its not affordable, nor even deserving of the "mini" name as its frigging enormous. There is nothing groundbreaking about the design. They churn out new models and designs every month and they just seem to blend with each other. (other than that fugly coupe thing)
My work colleague has a classic and a new JCW BINI and although its quite quick, i could find something more practical and affordable for a lot less money with just as much grunt
IMHO, there aren't many cars around now that i can see ever making the "classic" grade any more, i think that sort of thing died out around the Pug 205 GTi era.

When I first started visiting classic car shows with my Mk1 Mini Cooper in the late 1970's there were many comments from the older more traditional classic car owners that a Mini was just a common everyday modern car, would never become a true classic and had no place at a classic car show........
I have no doubt that the supercharged 2002-06 R53 MINI Cooper S designed by Rover will become the first new MINI to become a future classic car and in years to come many past, present and future owners will wish they had kept one tucked away in good original condition while they were still cheap and plentiful to buy!

Hello all. New around here.
I'm in that awkward position of owning a MINI as well as my classic Mini. Whenever I'm driving the MINI, which is most days to be honest for commuting, if I happen to see a classic Mini I always want to wave. I never do though because I assume the other driver will just think I'm a know nothing BMW owner, and just give me a funny look!
But that does mean I tend to acknowledge a MINI owner if they ever choose to wave at me when I'm in the classic, as you never know what else they own. That's rare though. Most MINI drivers ignore you on the road, though I do notice in car parks and so on you get quite a lot of friendly: "That's a really Mini!' type comments. They aren't all bad those people you know... :)
