My 1980 Austin Mini 1000 does not start randomly. The self-starter is working normally. Usually this happens after I had been driving it around for some time, and then leaving it parked for some minutes, it wont start, hence the engine is still warm.

If I push it, it will start on any gear. It has a new battery.
If it is left to cool down, (some couple of hours) it will start with no problems.

I also tried putting it in a gear and giving it a small push just in case of timing, but the problem still persisted.

Any help? Thanks

When you say 'wont start' does it turn over on the starter and not fire or nothing at all?

Sounds like fuel evaporation from the under bonnet temperature, a badly timed engine won't help as it runs hotter, Malta being warmer won't help either. Wrapping the exhaust manifold with proper insulation would be worthwhile in any warmer climate.

An electric fuel pump might be a worthwhile thing to fit, once the carb and fuel line are empty it takes a few turns of the engine to pump fresh fuel up to the carb,a pump will automatically pressurise up when you turn the ignition on.
