Only thing to go wrong really is if the pump valves don't work... If that's the case it's a drain down and I'd personally stick some cleaner in while I'm at it..... :) maybe some new pump washers too :)

But defiantly have a look into the BG flush.... You've paid for it so make use of it :D

Thanks mate, the shut off valves work as I played with them today when I took the pump apart. Just need to source a pump now. I have Pmed Blacktulip so fingers crossed. Will contact BG as well.

Be prepared for a shock on the price of a pump, they all have to have a certain energy rating which bumped up the price recently. I did have a share but used it in my mother in laws a few months ago. The pump usually comes with new washers so make sure you change those (:

not true, you can still buy original parts for boilers. manufacturers have to make spares for 15 years from the point of first launch by law. its the general new fit domestic heating pumps that the regs changed to high efficiency. these pumps have gone up big time. we do an own brand Wilo one which is very good value for money but still alot more expensive than the older type ones.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the cost -£20, but it was from a mate at work who had bought it a few months back then found out the boiler was dead. Its a Wilo and is A rated. It was only £50 when new which doesn't seem bad (guessing they are the cheaper end of the market). Fitted it in under an hour when I got home today, only hassle was the big nuts but did them with a chain type oil filter remover and it worked a treat. Bloody horrible job in a small cupboard though, wouldn't want to do it all day for a living if I am honest, I would be dead after a few days I think.

Haha there are worse situations to be in, I was crammed in a tiny airing cupboard with district heating piped on changing a ball valve this morning. Not so bad in the winter but when it's 20 degrees it's horrible! Don't you have a big adjustable spanner or pipe wrench? If they are old they are a nightmare to crack, I've had to hacksaw them before now. Good luck with it anywho! Just remember to check which way the arrow on the pump is pointing so it's the same as before!

Got a big stillson but it was too big to get in, no room behind either, just what you want. I used the old chisel trick to shock it loose but tightening it up was impossible. The chain worked an absolute treat, just a case of what you have at the time sometimes and when it comes to customising tools (read bodging) I am an old hand.

Just make sure you get it drained, cleaned, refilled and some inhibitor added now then :-)

Also if you want to avoid such problems in the future I would recommend you install a magnaclean pro2 filter.

Ha thats a proper sunday task, I would just drain it down this week, clean the header tank and add the cleaner, refill and get it going for a week. Hopefully next time it will just want draining out and refilling with the inhibitor. If all your radiators get warm it should not need any other messing about as the cleaner flowing will dislodge all the crud.
