Ahah i am only messing around ... Grades are legit but who cares they dont make a person...
Have a laugh while you can everyone take a chill pill.... Maybe two or three
Chuck the JK thread back up and everyones happy
Then everyone will have had their warnings to behave :)
True, I'm all for having a laugh and a bit of banter, as for JK, juries still out on that one, we might need a new god to worship, could be an interesting choice.

Or did people complain? Did somebody actually have a problem with the content?
Yes, several people did!
What a bunch of absolute mongs.
I find this term hugely offensive. Mongolism, (now called downs syndrome) being used as a term of abuse in exactly the same way Matt challenged homophobic posts in the JK thread.
If you knew what I've done in my life to support almost entirely down syndrome based charities you'd let that one go.
Anybody else or are we done for this evening?
Then why are you using it as a term of abuse?

I have never seen the JK thread. However after seeing the prat on the tv, this thread looks like its turning into a classic JK Show episode.
Just made a brew and waiting for more posts.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't see the use of 'gay' as a derogatory term being acceptable on here. Especially when the justification for using it is that you also call things Jewish in the same negative manner.
I'm being serious here and questioning whether it's just me that thinks that's completely wrong? I mean, what you say to your mates is one thing, but when you're typing stuff out on a forum (that probably has hundreds of Jewish members, hundreds or thousands of gay members) it's not really the right place to use slang 'banter' like that.
People that know me off the forum know that I'm up for a laugh just the same as anyone else, but that's OFF the forum. The forum has a set of rules laid out so as to prevent people being offensive. To me, criticising something by calling it gay or Jewish is NOT acceptable on here, it's that simple.

Seeing as this is an open forum, a "gay" person my be offended. Just the same way the N & P words are sometimes used in a derogatory way to describe people of an a ethnic origin................
I doubt those words would be acceptable on here......

That's exactly how I see it. It may be deemed fine for pub banter between mates that you know won't be offended by it. But when it's posted in a thread that's often at the top of the off-topic-banter section and as such becomes one of the first things people see when they browse the forum, then it's NOT acceptable to use it. That, coupled with the countless swearing and swear-filter-evasion in there makes it just not acceptable.
I genuinely thought that closing the thread was the lesser of two evils. I didn't want to have to go through it and review all of the stuff that had been mentioned and complained about, then hand out warnings for each offense as a lot of members would end up getting banned because of it.
We play by the rules, we get called Nazis, or the Gestapo. We try and be a little leniant and try to avoid warning and banning people because a thread had been left unchecked for too long until complaints were raised and we get this reaction. It's yet another no win situation that's ultimately been created by people posting so much stuff that they KNOW is against the forum rules and pushing their luck time and time again. We gave you an area for banter, you took it too far. We're guilty of not moderating it enough, I guess. But you know the rules of the forum, stick to them.

6: under 25: whilst most of us that posted are under 25 i dont think bean, broomer were and i know for a fact toyboy isnt 9only in the mind) but so what? are a group of lads *coughs* and girlies
around the same age not allowed to chat together with out it being a homophobic swearing meme posting bulling gang these days??
* Edited Chip

also if we go back when did the thread originnaly start? it was first a lonely hearts page, then an insomniac thread, then for some unknown reason the jk thread, it was a pointless thread but one thats been around since the start of the forum near enough, deleting it is like deleting history!!!
The Insomniac Thread was a completely different thread altogether. It was closed because I was publically bullied there by people who no longer use TMF, amongst other reasons. It started as a thread to be used for those who could not sleep, and eventually they became friends and started chatting or replying to posts during the day and it became an off topic thread for daily chat. I met lots of people in that thread, some I wish I hadnt but some that Im still friends with today...Sazal, Bean, ScottyBoi, Craig, to name a few.
The JK thread originally was The Lonely Hearts Page. I vowed I would never attempt to date anybody from TMF given that the first time went so horribly wrong - I was humiliated and bullied for all to see. I saw the Lonely Hearts and read for a couple of months and eventually started posting, because I was lonely. It then went the same way as the Insomniac Thread and became something completely different! However, I met some even more fab people who I would never have met otherwise...James, Chip & Becca, Lee, Sam, Spud, Ross & Sam, Liam, and so many more

I may not use it very much now, I feel since I am no longer a part of that relationship, some of the people I used to be friends with, dont seem to acknowledge me or talk to me anymore. I dont really know why. I also have a very busy life with 2 jobs, but I know that when I log in and start catching up on what I have missed, I can have a laugh and giggle thanks to all those who have contributed to it. I have made so many friends and acquaintances thanks to that thread, and like Craig and Leaky, there are some people who I keep in contact with there who I dont see very often or have any other form of contact with.
I didnt see what was said to you Matt, but I for one know you have am amazing sense of humour and are fab person to have around. The mods have always done an amazing job maintaining everything that gets posted and have helped me many times in the past. I know the mods dont always say what we want them to say, or close threads without warning but that is their JOB and we should all respect that. However, I am going to ask the same as Craig, those who were offending, were they issued with warnings? If not, why not? I would really like to see the return of the JK Thread, could it not be used with a 3 strikes system?

The point is, Heather, that I was trying to be leniant by hiding it. Too many posts in there were against the rules. Part of the reason I was leniant with it is that it's only recently come to light how much swearing is in there and how much content is against the forum rules. We have to accept that we should have been more involved with moderating the thread as it went along, but it was so full of waffle and banter and single line, or single word replies that we ignored it a bit.
Rather than dealing with all of the complaints, I genuinely thought that hiding the thread was the best option. I don't want to have to ban people because they've taken the mickey and pushed it too far. BUT, if that's the fairer way to deal with it, then that's what we have to do.
I can reopen it, and ban people that have sworn multiple times, used the aforementioned derogatory terms that they KNOW aren't acceptable no matter how they try and justify it. It's repeated, time and time again and they know they've done it. It'd result in Jon, Ross, Craig, Chipster, Sam, Spud, Liam and maybe a couple of others getting banned because they've repeatedly posted stuff that's against the TMF rules (and I'm talking a lot of posts).
IF me trying to avoid that was such a hideous thing, then I'm sorry.

OK, the rest of the team will possibly disagree with this, so I'm going out on a limb here a bit.
But what's wrong with starting a new thread? Or another chat thread like it, man, you can even call it JK2 if you want. BUT this time, stick to the rules and we'll keep a tighter check on it too. You can all still use it the same, you can all still catch up. But please let others be involved with it too, so it doesn't feel quite so clicky in there!
I mean, that's what this section is for after all. I think the point that some of you appear to be missing is that there's too much unsuitable stuff in there for it to be easy for us to clean up and reopen it. Yes, we let it go too far, but you guys knew that some of what you were posting was against the TMF rules.
Don't fill it with memes with swearwords in them. Don't fill it with innuendo and DON'T use terms like Gay and Jewish (or anything similar) in a derogatory manner. Consider all of the forum, rather than just the opinion of the group that are posting in there and it won't end like this again!

Didn't want to get involved, but I'll say anyway. If another thread was made to replace the hidden one, I think it will go the same way after a bit
Hopefully people will the post by Matt and abide but TMF rules thus elliminating the thread going the same way as the original.....
