You see, I accept that one-offs or uber rare variants will be worth that kind of money to the right person.
My real gripe is people selling the everyday mini parts or cars for way above the prices they are worth.
The windows were the original example, but some of the cars advertised are also just worth a mention.
I fail to see how people can be so greedy with these things. Unless they really are under the illusion that their steering wheel is worth £3000, or their rear windows are worth £105.

Matt are you that naïve to think somebody is not going to try it on, BMW have just been accused in China of selling parts at inflated prices ( because they could get away with it ). Apparently to build 1 BMW car out of buying new parts is the equivalent cost of 12 cars. Since this has been brought to BMW attention and the Chinese publics attention , they are now slashing their prices on parts in China by 40%.
If you placed an ad for parts on say eBay and you accidently put a highly inflated price, but it sold quickly would you not try that intentionally again.....that's business.

Nope, I'm not at all naive, but thanks for the name calling.
Look, all I'm saying is that there are prices out there that are taking the mickey and I'm pointing them out. I totally understand that Are people really struggling to understand that's all I'm saying? There's no 'agenda' to this post, I'm not trying to achieve anything. I'm literally just pointing out that people are taking the mickey with some of their adverts.
And just for your reference, no, I never sell anything at high prices and never will. Money doesn't really bother me so much that I'm desperate to claw every penny out of everything I sell. I feel pretty sorry for people that feel the need to do so really. I tend to give stuff away as much as possible (ask lots of people on the forum that I've helped out over the 7 years I've been a part of it, not to mention the lads that are in the local Mini club that I've given lots of stuff to). Sometimes if a part owes me some money, I like to try and get some of it back. But no, I wouldn't sell stuff at an over-inflated price for the sake of taking the mickey out of potential buyers.

Why on Earth do you feel that me starting a thread about the price of stuff needs to turn into you having a keyboard warrior go at me?

The other side to parts prices increasing is that it means the cheaper project cars are now ideal fodder for breaking to make money. Its also a lot easier to pull a car apart and make money than actually doing the work and repairing it.
My Mpi, I paid £800 for it a couple of years ago, if I'd have broken it I would have got about £2000 back on it, instead I spent about £1000 on and its still not worth £2000.
I like to maximise my profits but some of the prices people are asking are utterly ridiculous.

Nobody is struggling to understand the point that you're making.
We get that some people ask more for parts than you think they should. You've made and repeated your point.

I agree with the O.P , Ebays always has people who are are chancers and greedy , bigging up there own sales by making outthere bits are super rare . Unfortunately there will always be some one with more money than sense - that goes for all classics and parts , not just minis . I was into my mk1 escorts , and thats just the same . People selling shells given a quick blowover in primer and want 5k - Usually with a statement such as ' i know what its worth ' [ a grossly inflated personnel oppinion ] , or ' i will just keep it if it doesnt sell '.
People pay enormous amounts for N.OS parts , not in packaging which are probably reproductions . Thats not to mention the rs1600 for sale that the owner wanted £75,000 , which may or may not be the one which was ' stolen ' a little while ago.
I would tend to ask on forums for parts rather than ebay , unless i know its going to be cheap - i would buy chrome bits , lights brakes etc , anything new from there , for the fact that its probably Chinese and crap .

I also think Ebay is subject to what i call ' the estate agent effect ' . Like houses , when one sells for £200,000 , someone down the road will ask £220,000 . The same with minis , if someone advertises something for a high price , then others will to , whether that price is realistic or not .
Also ebay is subject to people trying to artificially inflate the price , by advertising lots of stuff for a high price . There is a mini specialist on there selling about 20 minis , all for very high prices , leading people to believe thats how much you have to pay if you dont look anywhere else .
The same happens with old fords , KGF cars filling the space with expensive over priced cars - no doubt sold to non-scene people - and wanted ads as well saying this sold for this much etc . Very sneaky way of dominating the market and creating a false high market .

List it unrealistically high, gets lol'd across MULTIPLE forums = extra advertising and spread for seller.
Chances are more people WILL bid.
Smart if you ask me.
