Those carbs

I suppose this is due an update, Ive cracked on and the front end is now nearly together - front subframe and engine went back underneath with minimal stress and its been very much plain sailing with everything going back on nice and easily.
Decided to install the exhaust manifold before putting the subby under as it was a right pain to maneuver past the bulkhead last time! So, manifold on, wheels on:

God I love this car! So many tiny details that add up.
Also assuming that is your beast on the cover photo at the top of the main page? If so nice job getting up there!

Thanks, I do think it is one of the most perfect steering wheels ever made for the mini! Just right.
Thanks Alex, its quite hard to show it through the photos (especially as they are taken on my phone) but she is really starting to come together - cant wait to see the interior finished. Also, deadline is the 2nd May, so I have the rear and the interior to do in a month!
Also yeah, won the banner competition! Got a screen shot of it saved for her history folder

Long weekend off work so got some more done today - the frond end is now pretty much complete, couple of little bits for the carbs still to get and the fuel hose to connect them all up, clutch master cylinder line needed, pretty much it! So, here we are - rad restored and installed (will get a new rad cap, used this one when painting the rad)

So, I started on the rear, removed the shocks:

And the rear suspension, which I then promptly put back as I realised it would be needed to wheel the subby round to the front of the car where it would be dismantled

About 1/2 hour later, the subby was out, painless job as everything was copper greased when it was first assembled 6 or so years ago:

Body resting on some blocks, this makes it easy to do the interior whilst the subframe is at the powdercoaters.

Also bought this, a Heuer Super Autavia dash clock - the most complex they ever made as it is a stopwatch and a clock in one (a chronograph). Bought it for around half its true value as it didnt work, took it to bits and fixed it - all it needs now is a crystal to cover the dial. Its in fantastic condition, almost NOS. Took a few pics of it, it will probably be mounted on the black double plate of my NOS Rallymaster set seen earlier, and I will swap it and the Master Time over every now and then. You can probably tell by now that these things are one of my other passions!

More tomorrow, Ill be stripping the rear subframe and maybe starting the interior - I may make the 2nd May Blyton deadline yet!

Those watches are properly beautiful... I am a little green with envy every time I look at this build. Great work man :)

Thanks guys, the phone camera doesn't really show how it looks in person, seeing the front end together makes it worth the year of not driving her and the expense of the build! Im also seriously considering going archless and running rose petal wheels, but I cant decide between those and the Exacton splits... this is a genuine "first world problem"

I'd say rose petals would really finish this off! Especially archless
