DM..

sorry change the subject.....but your external hinges... are you going to modify the a-panels?? ( i assume your using mk3 doors....or did u say ally?? :w00t: )

because i was speaking to a guy at the malvern show last wknd, and he had just modifyed his new heritage shell to fit hit mk1 hinges.... and im pretty sure he said it wasnt that much of a job... and he was using the mk3 doors and original panels... ;D

has anybody actually fitted external hinges with the original mk3 a-panels?? or am i being a muppet :w00t: :D (dont answer that :o )

Fitting exturnal hinges, you need the Mk1 inner A panel, and a mk3 outter A panel...

fit as normal, with the outters, but th einners need welding onto the inside of the inner wing....

I'll get u a piccy when I get home :w00t:

its "do-able" but from what i've heard its not an easy job. remember that if you are using mk3 doors then you will have to do a lot of modding to fit mk1/2 a panels. also need to know that mk1/2 doors and a different shape to mk3 onwards doors.

a while back dereks mini centre converted a later shell to mk 1 for a customer.....never again they said (becuase of the door issue).

Well its all been fairly simple so far...
I've got a pair of old doors, to line it all up with....

Just watch over the next few weeks, you'll soon see some doors being hung :w00t: I am converting everything on mine ot make mine look like a mk1...

Even perspex sliding windows - or I might see if I can get my mk3 glass cut in half and do it that way :o

using the mk3 outer a panels as dogmatix is will eleviate the problem of the
mk3 doors shape being different at the bottom, all he has got to do is use the
inner mk1 panel to align the hinge holes and drill through.

Which if you look closely, you can see the inner panel in place :w00t:

Hardest part is going to be lining up the doors....

Just a suggestion, make or use door wedges to centralise the door in the frame
to help the lining up of hinges ( ie put a couple at the botton and down the sides of the door)

Ok been out today, and had a really good productive day :)

Got the welding 99% finished :withstupid:
Still a little tarting up to do with the grinder and a file, but won't take long.

Also finially got myself a tin of red oxide :ermm: with 750ml of thinners... £17 all in  not bad eh!?

So after dodging the rain, which was a PITA today, I got most if the welding done...

MK1 light plates are now on :( red oxide'd over the top still need to be smoothed off, with filler, but thats a job I can do when the MIni is finially able to stay in the garage...

Also finished trimming the front end up, and red oxiding that, took the shock mounts off, to see what was lurking underneth, and quite surprisingly found the metal underneth is ok :) so a lick of paint and all is good.

Need to order some "lowered" shock mounts next. Loosened my subby bolts, ready for the "big" drop tomorrow.

Fitted my exturnal hinges to the A panels... and who ever is doing this, make sure you drill the outter A panels first, as I missed the holes on the lower mounting points, but luckaly the hinges will cover 98% of the hole...

Well thats enough of me waffling... heres some piccys...

One of the hinges fitted :)

One where I was slighty out on my measurements.... :-

Hinges fitted :proud: :D :D :w00t:
Dead easy job to fit... little trimming to get it to line up stright and level, but done all non-genuine panels ;)

Posted Image
Not sure who wanted to know, but this is the inner A panel needed to fit exturnal hinges...

Mk1 light plates fitted all looking pretty....

And finially, my front end looking all nice and ready to fit some plates to fit the bonnet, and Kevlar front end :D
