Still quite ill today but managed a trip to Minispares and a bit of work. My 2 core ally rad is ready to fit and I put the roller rocker assembly together...twice! I had to remove the outer double-spring washers as they caused the outer rockers to bind and the whole affair to be a damn tight fit, much better now. It`s raining on and off all day so I won`t be able to get outside and do some serious building. Here`s some pics..........

In theory I could have got things finished today but a combination of lousy weather and lousy me (got me pills now) put paid to that. A pound to a penny the sun is out tomorrow when I`m back behind the wheel, grrrrrrrrrrr  :shades:

Having dispatched (legally) gas-man number 2 I said "to blazes with the weather" and a few other things too! I got me toolbox and went out to roll Clubby from his tent. Sleeves up and in went the rad with its newly painted shroud thus giving the illusion that it`s all ally hee hee. On went the block hose and then I got the head gasket out and on. Head next but can`t nut it up yet as I want to sort the exhaust manifold out while I got lots of room. New thermostat in and on went its cover and hose. That was done in conjunction with my new Wood `n` Picket (it`ll never get better, lol) rad steady in stainless. Next the heater water valve and that brings us up to date. Not a lot I grant you but at least something got done. Here`s how it looks now:-

So with this head it just all fits on?

Or have you got to do something else?

Nope, it`s a straight swap. Even the carbs are already jetted to give me almost 100% when it`s complete. I noticed that when I stripped the original rocker shaft to re-use the spacer springs the shaft itself was in very poor condition. Quite badly pitted and worn to the point that one could see the wear without aid. Never mind, springs apart the new one is NEW. Thanks for your interest.  :highfive:

Looks a really sorted bit of kit. I have bike carbs on my five port and love the sound they make so i think this will be the next step.

have you just placed the head on and not tightened it up yet ......if so then before you do remove the head and gasket and use 3 pieces of 5amp fuse wire about 50mm long and smeer a bit of hilomar blue on block face between bores and then place fuse wires on hylomar then pop head gasket and then head and torque up.....this stops inter bore blow....

Ooh - I know what you are getting at MK1 but that sounds awful risky to me. I think I`ll just stick to the gasket and you can kick my ass later (yes, that was kick) when I get blow-by, lol. Gawd knows when I`ll get another day off to play............. :highfive:

The big difference I noticed was the torque don't know about power but much quicker than a 5 port worked head

I`ll give you my thoughts on power/torque later. But now...................my job got cancelled this morning due to a double booking so I came home for a few hours, yay!! Got Clubby out of his shelter and started on the exhaust manifold. Had to modify the spacers a bit first though as they come too thick, simple job.

I put them in place and fitted the washers and brass nuts. Couldn`t use 2 of my new washers because they fouled the pipes so used a doubled-up set of regular ones, worked fine.

Next up was fitting and "nutting down" the rocker shaft. I hit a snag there as the centre 2 rockers were only just on their valves. I couldn`t leave them like that so off it came again and I rebuilt it with the centre rockers spaced in for better contact.

Happy at last I fitted the head nuts and "nipped" them up. Out came the torque wrench for 34 newton/metres first and a final tightening of 68 newton/metres - the head`s on  :-) I dare say I could have put the carbs on at this point but I didn`t want to start what I couldn`t finish and I`m back off to work soon. Well that`s the state of play at the moment, thanks for looking in.
