Hmmm, well the flanges and first part of the connectors are metal but the blue bits, as you say, are plastic. If you have the same Mikuni carbs as me how do yours fit on then? Mine are held in the tubes with a jubbly clip.

Muggins here thought she was going to have an easy day of it today - how wrong can one be? I rolled Clubby out and set-to to adjust the valve clearances, that went ok. Then I started to fit the new longer throttle cable, I had to take the seat out to be able to get my head and hands where I needed them. Cable fitted I turned my attention to the choke side of things and my troubles really started. To get at the choke fixing nut one has to remove the little switch panel, as I`m sure you all know. Due in no small way to Clubby having some additional trim I could just about get a fingertip on one retaining nut but couldn`t get a tool near it. I tried using the choke knob to twist the cable while I had a finger on that retaining nut - nothing doing. I had a fag and pondered things deciding finally to mount the new choke knob elsewhere. Out came me drill and I made a hole in the dash above the heater control knob (it`s all knobs today!). I filed it to size and shape and after a lot of mucking about finally got it fitted. Its a horrible all plastic affair but one needs the length.

Not really happy but hey ho I went and got the carbs. You just push `em in and do the jubblies up. Ha! They didn`t fit the pitch of the port tubes and I had a right old game of golliwogs getting them all in. As I started to do the clips up the pressure squeezed the little buggers back out! Start again. Got them all in and promptly hit another potential snag for later - you can`t even see the spark plugs, let alone get to them! I had to call it quits then because though I got a mile of 3/16 petrol pipe I hadn`t got any 1/4 so cleared up and put Clubby to bed, lucky sod, lol.

Indeed, what a good job it`s just a screwdriver job! lol
I`ll tack this onto this post so as not to waste space:- This could only happen to me! Bought some necessary bits at Minispares this morning and then got Clubby out to finish him off (sic). Connected up the fuel lines and pressure regluator, tied the pipes up out the way and went for the start. Took a bit of cranking as everything was empty but then he started, coughed and died. No worries, bit of throttle needed. Started up again and lo he ticked over very sweetly. While he was doing that I went to check that all was ok under the bonnet - arrrrrrrrrrggggghhhhhh! Switch off quick, petrol was peeing out the bottom of every carb and continued to do so for quite some time. I`m coalboxed now because I don`t know the first thing about Mikuni carbs (except I`m going off them). I can see me going Weber, anyone want to buy a 4 carb set-up?

That`s it! I`ve had enough, I`m going the Weber way. I tilted my bike carbs right up like our Dutch friend said, turned her over, result - petrol peeing out again onto the pile of cat litter I put there should this happen again. I Know that Mark is fitting new O rings to his carbs in an attempt to cure this but my patience is exhausted. So if anyone wants to make a sensible offer for 4 carbs, cables, mounting etc that go straight on a 7 port head you`ll find me here. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The set-up came with a fuel pressure adjuster that I set according to instructions at 1 1/2, result - flood. I turned it down to minimum and had the same result. Other than blocking it altogether I don`t know the answer.

Blast! I just typed a lengthy essay and then it vanished! Here`s take 2.
Having got fed up to the back teeth with leaky motorbike carbs I bit the bullet and bought myself a pair of Weber 40 DCOEs. I then went about fitting a Sytec throttle linkage which came from oilbay. Blasted thing didn`t fit anywhere and I had to do a bit of sculpting just to get in onto the carb-top. When I offered it up to the head the levers fouled everything and I had to make myself a shorter connector out of a bit of alloy. Still no joy and the carb connectors were now 90 degrees out of alignment. I bit bullet number 2 and went over to Aldon Automotive and bought the first alloy Weber linkage that they had sold, it was new in. I got home and fitted this up, trimmed the carb-to-carb lever a bit (I knew I`d have to do that) and it went straight on with no bother. Should have done that in the first place. I am now in the process of modding the bulkhead a bit to take the twin throttle cables. Hopefully I`ll get things finished tomorrow then I can get on with my brake conversion and fit the lovely Cosmic wheel set that I got. Here`s how Clubby looks at the moment.....

If anyone wants to play with the Sytec it`s on oilbay at a reduced price.

Well I was up at the crack of 10 this morning and after a cuppa, feed the cats etc I ventured out to Clubby`s lair with me tool kit. First thing to do was fitting the throttle cables via the newly drilled holes in the bulkhead. This was quite an easy job and I soon had the cables pulling on the Webers. Next up was the choke cable which was a new cable in part of the old outer and part new outer. Snag here was it just wouldn`t go through the holes in the carbs oojars (I`ll think of their name later) so out with me drill again for a further mod. Soon had that connected up and working, just fuel to go. That was straight forward and after tying everything up out of harms way it was THAT time. It took quite a bit of cranking to coax any life out of the engine but then the carbs were bone dry. After throwing the starter out a few times it burst into life revving quite high. Nipped out and checked for leaks and reset the idle. That took a few goes to get right but I didn`t care because there were still NO leaks!
I was going to include a short video of Clubby running but I can`t find my darn tripod and I shake too much for a hand job (keep it to yourself please
) He hunts a bit on idle but that`s to be expected with those carbs and the high lift rockers. A rolling road session at Aldon`s is a bit over £200 but that`ll come later. Pic 1 shows the general finished job, pic 2 shows the same from above and pi3 shows the neat twin cable set up on the pedal.
