Ello Jagman, yes they are rollers but according to the Minispares site the only cover guaranteed to allow their use without fouling issues is their own brand. I have ordered one today as they aren`t regular stock and can`t do anything till it arrives which is a pain. I just hope they remember to call me when it does turn up.

Can you not lay your hands on a steel cover in the mean time?

Put Clubby`s new main jets in today (105s down from 115s) and he sounds much better though my ears tell me that some more tweaking is necessary in the various other departments. I don`t know anything about them so he`ll have to go to the experts for final tuning. At least I know I can get there now.

I`ve put me new "Mini Spares" rocker cover on which doesn`t foul the rockers and he runs a bit better now but still on the "rough" side. However on Monday the 14th Clubby is due at Aldon Autos for a proper tune-up on their rolling road. Doubtless this will cost a few bob but I hope he will at least be useable and reliable when sorted. All out performance is not my criteria, nice running is the priority and I`ll let you know how things went with a pic or 2 IF I remember my camera.

Here it is folks, the final chapter of this saga. Farce is more the word, what a start to the day! I uncovered Clubby, climbed in and tried to start him - nothing doing and flattened the battery! Brought up my 52 Cooper S for a jump, still nothing! Then I noticed the fuel gauge was registering fresh air. Grabbed me fuel can and shot off down the garage in the rush hour traffic. When I got there I realised I had left me cards at home! Shot back, grabbed them and went back for petrol. Hooked the pair up and finally got Clubby running, just. Got myself ready and began the journey to Aldon Automotive. What a journey that was. Clubby was spluttering and hesitating and I thought I`d be late for my 9-30 appointment. Got to Brierly Hill, took a wrong turning and got lost! Retraced my tracks, got on the right road and arrived on the dot of 9-30, phew. Clubby was taken off to the secret lair of the tuner and I sat in the reception reading old car mags. 2 hours went by and then I heard a noise, quite a good one, things were looking up. Silence for another hour then more noise better then before. Another hour`s silence and more noise culminating in Clubby flat out standing still. I was invited into the workshop at this point to see the goings on. The he was strapped to the floor with wires coming out of the bonnet and the chappie changing jets and emulsifier tubes and such like. I took some pics and a video of the run-up process then left the engineer to get on. After the best part of 5 hours Clubby was returned to my keeping with the advice that "we never had much luck with high-lift rockers", so they are coming off. I paid the bill of £281 thankful that at least he now ran. He has a top speed of 94mph and 70 something hp so I`m a bit disappointed really, hey ho, at least he CAN pull the skin off a rice pudding now, quite torquey in fact. Heere`s some pics and a vid.

The engine from the head gasket down is a standard 1275 as fitted to GTs straight from the Austin 1300 range. To be honest an increase of about 8 MPH and maybe 10 BHP doesn`t exactly elate me but the tuner said the fault may lie with the 1.5 ratio roller rockers so they are coming off - takers anyone? £80, only done 20 miles. It still looks lovely when the bonnet is open but the bottom line is - was it worth it? Err.......................................no (said very quietly).
