Didn't get much time out there today, but really wanted to measure up for a spit design and start getting some zinc on the previously stripped panels to protect them a little better. They may need to be cut out anyway in some cases but might as well save what I can.

The primer makes some of it look even worse ( if thats possible ), this will be a fun bit to fix

IMG_1383.jpg

The panels are being wire wheeled before wiping and priming.

After

And found a random hole in the roof - nice.

I'm guessing aftermarket aerial - but bullet does sounds better.

Getting a few hours with the wire wheel today. Looks like the panels I thought were good are a bit past it too.

IMG_13871.jpg

Is that lead filler? IMG_13881.jpg

I could probably get away with this, it just depends how retentive I want to be on this built really. The less I spend on panels the better and there are some good treatments available.

If you can have bullet mirrors, why not bullet aerial?

The front panel is a keeper, may need two scuttle ends though. I have put some rust inhibitor and zinc primer on the panels just to keep the moisture off the bare metal now.

The A-Panel N/S was next for the chop, for the price of the panel its worth it to me to cut it off and check everything underneath. Glad I did as some repairs are in order.

Updating threads is a great excuse to come in for a brew. Expect a few updates :)

A little more done but nothing very impressive.

The rear arch looks as though it will go again. I've put some rust treatment on it for now and zinc primer.

IMG_1415.jpg

A side repair panel will be made for the boot floor, the centre section is savable

IMG_1416.jpg

Not sure what happened here, I may redo this side of the heelboard

IMG_1419.jpg

Is it just me or does this look like it should be attached to something, I think its the sill stiffener.

IMG_1403.jpg

I have thrown everything at the gunk on the floor panel, thinners, gunk, wirewheels, scrapers and even killed an angle grinder so thats it for today. Ill try again in the morning.

Looks like a good project, shame that it's been cut for the deseaming. The stuff on the floors look's similar to mine, I found the best thing to get the majority of it off was a sharp scraper or chisel but try not to dig into the metal..

Yeah the little 1" scraper turned out to be the best thing for it.

It's a shame about the seams, but its all fixable with a bit of time so im not too bothered, with the exception of the rear panel the rest is only a few short sections which have been cut.

Another boring update, waiting til pay day to get some bits to actually rebuild but until then I have plenty of tedious jobs to do.

A lot of my power drills/grinders have given up the ghost, so I dug out my Old Faithful for some wirewheeling of the boot floor / seat panel.

Love tools with a bit of character :)

IMG_1440.jpg

Combined with a few flap wheels, sanding discs, nylon brush wheels etc etc I managed to get to this stage after a few hours.

IMG_1442.jpg

The centre of the panel is great, a couple of areas are pitted and could do with replacing but the edges are past it. Ill try making these panels with some CAD tomorrow. The boot floor retails at around £300 I think so I can justify mucking about for a week repairing it, especially if I make the side / rear repair pieces out of scrap.

Battery box was perfectly preserved by the 5mm of gunk / silicone / tar / kyrptonite so will just need resealing on the edges.

IMG_1444.jpg

The O/S heel board needs a bit of work though.

IMG_1446.jpg

And I have been staring at this for inspiration....

looks like you have a lot of work on your hands here, if you are using gas less wire for welding make sure to clean welds up often before starting the next lot so you don't get the protective coating trapped in the weld. i have used gas less on my build mainly because i don't have the space for a bottle and like i only have to move the welder. going to be watching out for updates on this
