There is some difference between answering a technical question, such as the pros and cons of 13" wheels, with saying that there is a 'hate' for 13" wheels. Hopefully these good & bad aspects have been explained now and the OP can better understand what the 13" wheels do and don't do for the classic Mini.

Of course, there are other threads, like the current one about putting race-tape on the headlights of road Minis where criticism will be because it reduces the available light going down the road to see with at night by around 20%. This is then a safety issue and will attract criticism. That is besides it identifies the owner as a 'boy-racer' by many people.

I don't think there are many who post harsh, unfair, criticism on here as we don't allow rudeness. Buy if someone asks for opinions, he/she should not be surprised when some adverse (to them) replies result. All-in-all we are all quite nice friendly people on here who, quite simply, love classic cars in general and the classic Mini in particular.

There is no 'right or wrong' with this.

It's personal choice and as said above, the choice is between performance against perceived appearance, or 'technical against visual'. But then again, many feel the classic Mini only looks really correct with original 10" wheels and that is their perceived view which they are equally entitled to. It comes down to what you want from classic car ownership, but in the end it's about motoring in the 'retro' way, whatever you choose to fit to a classic car.

An owner could fit 16" all-terrain knobbly tyres to a Jaguar E-Type and if he liked the look, then it would be his choice and his pleasure.
