I love 10's...I love 13's....

I have 13's on currently and I love the look, filling the fat arches, however I also love the look of 10's under big arches too.  So im currently in a predicament as I dont know whether I want to downsize or stay the same when i order my split rims :(

personally,I dont like overarching - but what I have gained from this thread is its your car not mine! and experiment where possible if your not sure - why not post in the digital section and ask for someone to photoshop the 10" and 13" version of the rims your looking at?    - or if you can afford it - try both! haha   ;D

Haha say wide but I'm running genuine sportspacks   Ive photoshopped both and both look good, just downsizing involves getting rid of my alloy callipers for smaller alloy callipers, which adds to the cost :(

do you have a particular preference to either? maybe you could go 12's? - that way you could keep the callipers etc?

I think 12's look underwheeled somehow.  Never beena  fan.  Always upper or lower end of the spectrum for me.  As mentioned in this throughout, it's all personal preference :)

argh! I have been looking at getting new tyres on my mini recently and everywhere I look on here there are people asking about 13" tyres and then 3 pages of reply's telling them to go and spend their hard earned money on a new set of 10"or 12" wheels and tyres!

I know that 13" wheels are not perfectly suited to the mini - but the amount of crap and hate on them really annoys me, I run them on my mini - in fact I particularly wanted a car with the sportspack - and IMHO they handle perfectly well on the ROAD and they still get you around corners like a mini should  - yet still people sit writing long essays based on technical data and knowledge alone and come to the conclusion that they are 'unsafe' or that they handle badly or 'tramline' - RUBBISH! (most of the time...)

While yes - they were more of a marketing and styling thing for rover, they would not have fitted them if they ruined the most renown part of the mini - the handling, and my real world experience is this:

  • yes, 13" wheels put more strain on the car and steering
  • wear and tracking imperfections can be exaggerated with them on
  • they look really good
  • non mini nerds never fail to love them
  • on the track etc - they can offer better grip than other sizes...
  • they look okay with the sport-pack arches - smaller wheels make the sportspack cars look even more over arched - and you have to change the arches as well - if like me you paid ££££'s extra to get a factory sportspack car then this is madness!

The thing that gets me with all this is that while in my own mind I think they are fine - I get self concious of what other people think - (for other reasons - I'm really self conscious and this carry's through...) :shy: and end up in a lost void of wasting my hard earnt money,(what of it there is anyway...) or keeping what I have and locking myself into it now I need to invest in new tires on the front at least and also getting the rims restored as I recently had a bit of a crash and trashed them...

Rant over!     - actual non biased advice on weather I should save and go 12" (maybe 12x6 deep dish JBW?) or lock my self back into 13" by getting new tires and paying to have the alloys restored would be much appreciated!

Thanks - I'm not usually this grumpy   :shy:  ;D - I'm just pretty unwell right now and to top it off I have now got to find the money to repair my mini after crashing it! (basicly all that I earnt in the last few months going to work is now going to go on repairing the damage that happened... while going to that place of work!  - fun times!)

I don't think its a case of hate against 13" wheels, it probably more a case of people finding it difficult to give advice that is detrimental to performance. But that's all it is - advice, to be taken or ignored at your whim.

I've got all three sizes :-)
10s on the Mk3 S and the Pickup
12s on the Mayfair
13" bad boys on the Cooper Sport ;-)

I like all three sizes, they all have their own feel. What I will say though is, the 13" Sportpacks with the Continental shoes take some beating on a hot sunny day, often make fools of the BMW/Audi types on roundabouts :-)

I love the 13's on mine. All the comments I get from bystanders are that it looks great. I'm more bothered about looks than handling so it suits me fine.

I prefer the handling to my old 13"'s to my 10"'s to be honest. Sure the ball joints and bearings were a bit annoying but at least it meant a form of routine maintenance was happening...

The uniqueness of 10" appeals to me though, there are so many options and I think it just suits the classic look more. I am firmly in the 10" camp. You can also collect more of them as they fit in smaller cupboards  :shifty:

As others have said though, its your car, do whatever takes your fancy. If you put pictures of your car on a forum, you have to appreciate you'll invite some negative comments as well as positive, if you can't deal with that just don't put them up :)

Sadly this is often true, but it shouldn't be this way. If I don't like someone's car - if it's not to my taste - then I simply won't comment. Unless they are looking for advice, why post negative comments about someone's car at all. If you don't like it, so what? Each to their own is what I say.

The most accurate statement I've seen written for sometime.
