Hi Guys,

I have a Classic Rover Mini Equinox (1996).

I'll try my best to describe the problem i'm having:

At the START of the journey, usually between 10-20mph in gear 2, my mini starts to jolt forward and is hesitant to accelerate - ranges from 2 seconds to 8ish.

The best way to describe it is it feels like the engine is not getting petrol to it; making it jolt until it starts being fine.

I could be driving at 15mph in gear 2; 10-20 seconds into my journey and it will begin - once it has done it once, it wont happen again until the car has stopped for a while (i.e. next day)

This problem is only intermittent though - it does not occur everyday, but it does it often enough for me to want to sort it out before it gets worse.

If ive missed anything or you need more info to try and help my solve the problem - let me know,

Thanks in advance :)

It sounds like not enough choke while it's cold.  I tend to push my choke in after getting past second gear.  If I have to stop at lights etc I'll pull the choke out again as I'm rolling to a stop.

Being a 1996 build, it would be an SPI, the Flying Scott's the guy.

Indeed Chief Inspector Clouseau, it's likely not the choke in that case! :P

Have you checked all the vacuum hoses? Also I had a similar problem with my Spi. Turned out worn engine steady bushes where causing the engine to move back and forth. As it was doing this it was knocking the air filter sensor in and out. I doubt yours is the same problem, but it's worth a look.

Thanks guys,

It starts as soon as the key is turned - its really responsive.

Its not necessarily when its cold that it does it; its done it in the summer before.

The best way to put it is it judders (almost as if the engine has no petrol), then all is fine afterwards

There are no strange noises when it happens - just sounds like its ran out of petrol - (its not low on petrol when it does this XD)

Thanks,

Could it be the spark being the issue?

Had a similar thing with my carb engine and was told the check the dizzy and that cured it for me!

Ps: dunno if that is relevant to your issue

Sorry,

What do you mean 'the spark'? (spark plugs?)

also, 'check the dizzy'?

I know a tiny bit about minis - but that over my head XD

Thanks
