Yeah was relieved! Not sure if the cam looks rather worn or is that normal?
Yeah when I did the cam lift test the readings were varying quite somewhat!

Thinking of the swiftune vernier and iwis chain for it,new oil pump whilst it's this far apart, just looking at the cam unsure whether to keep the current 276 or get an sw8.

Minis eh! Glad it didn't go bang though, the last drive was supposed to be down to l2b, so glad it refused to get any distance!

Took the 276cam out tonight and measured the lobes, and as AC Dodd said at the start, the lobes are uneven and vary 0.5mm, so quite a bit of wear!

Cam bearings are fine, so looking at a cam kit now.

Dilemma is, get another 276, as it has just been setup with that spec cam, or get a swiftune sw8 kit? (ran an sw10 in the past, and got a sw5i for my MPi to fit)

Ok, you need to sort out why you have that much wear. If you don't resolve this issue the new cam will do exactly the same as the old one.

What cam lube did you use on initial start up?

What poundage valve springs are you using?

What oil did you use for the run in?

I was told to use a high zinc mineral oil as it helps harden the cam and followers.

Had unknown heavy duty springs in with titan rockers, we set the valve clearances to 16thou, so guessing now they should have been more like 18-19. On the valves that were worn the roller rockers (titan) had wear and wernt't fully round.

Now got road spec swiftune springs fitted, and new med rockers, so hopefully should solve that issue?

Ran the engine in with halfords cheap 2050, then onto standard millers 300ish miles in, then once the engine is back and running, will switch to millers ctv.

I use moly grease on the cam lobes. No need to run monster clearances. 0.016 is fine. To big is actually bad as the follower misses the slow openingramp on the camlobe and causes more wear.

For what its worth I would not use 1.5 rockers if you want a long service life.

Just read this whole post........could the cam lobe wear and slotted hole in the vernier pulley be connected?

As suggested, it looks as though there's been coil binding on the valve springs and that's why the lobes and pulley hole are worn. If this is the case it might be worthwhile changing the cam drive belt as well if it's been under strain by the whole cam/pushrod/rocker movement locking-up every time there's a spring binding.......

Cheers, Steve.
