Well they are quite up front that it's had the VIN chopped out and put in a completely different and totally incorrect shell.

£5600 though, you're a massive plum if you pay that for it!

Anything desirable will attract the attention of fakers, thieves and tricksters and older cars without stamped-in ID numbers are particularly susceptible. Trigger's broom scenario definitely applies so verifiable history is everything and then re-shelling/replacement engines etc are part of the cars story and what makes it unique. Very often it's the skulduggery in a cars past that gives it value.
As a buyer I would be making extensive enquiries to check out a potentially valuable car as I'm sure we all would but even the most well informed can be fooled - look at the number of top art galleries that have bought fakes! it is said that a fool and his money are easily parted but sometimes it just isn't possible to tell a fake and if you're buying it as an investment as long as the next buyer is convinced you will achieve your aim of financial gain. As long as you've done everything possible to authenticate it you can hold your head high.

Not really, especially when they've done such a **** job it's not even period correct anymore.

You wouldn't lash out decent money on a Mk2 knowing full well most of the original car is long gone.

At least they are admitting that it's an illegal car by saying it is a late 90s shell.

The daft thing is that in a few years it will be worth a few quid with the correct log book, I think we'll see some re ringing in the next decade!

I don't know, I mean it's registered as a Mk2 but with a 90's shell, it's glaringly obvious something is very incorrect from 30 feet away.

If it was still registered as a 90's car with the Mk2 interior, in a sort of retro-mod kinda fashion then it'd sell fairly well.

As is, it's the sort of thing no serious buyer would touch with a bargepole.

That's what I mean, if it was put back onto the 1990s document and vin plate, about the same four minutes it took to 'reshell' it last time and it would be a nice and legal mini, just add road tax!
