Engine bay holds the key for me, I've seen it listed twice without engine bay pictures, that sways my gut in a certain direction but that's not useable evidence of anything is it?.

Was the listing pulled early on that one?
Perhaps the seller got cold feet when people started asking more searching questions.
A few years ago no-one would have given a monkeys, what would a rough 89 Mayfair been worth?
Few hundred quid, even with all the bits?? Chances are a car like that would be bought to strip and the shell sent straight to the crusher.
Suddenly the price is into the thousands and people are more careful with their money.

It has been done before.......see link below.
Brian Gunn charts the process of fitting an MPi engine to his 1983 Mini.
From Austin Rover Online:
"After a few years of driving a Mini powered by a tuned 998cc engine, Brian felt it was time for a change, and followed the well trodden route of installing a 1275cc engine in his Mini. Or did he?"
"Exactly how I came to the conclusion that I needed to install the most complicated version of my desired engine into the Mini has since been lost in the mists of time, but it certainly seemed like a fun challenge, as well as creating a car that was somewhat unique. The situation was helped by the fact a friend of mine was rebuilding his own Mini, and wanted an engine with more performance than standard, and so we agreed a deal; he would buy my 998, and I could then buy an MPi engine and ancillaries from a crash damaged car."

Not saying it can't be done, I was asking how financially viable such a project would be.
The guy was running a business, so would there have actually been any money to make considering the time and money invested in such a project?
or did some nutcase pay the man to do the entire swap for them (Labour alone must have cost a lot?)

I once had an Apple Jack green mini with the centre clock which to me look like the only original areas on it, mine was a 1980 on a W reg so that's my guess , I've still got the v5 but it's not showing on the system NVT 405W, that will be tax exempt in 3 years so maybe I'll stick it on a stolen MPI
