Brakes Update:

Much isnt said in the way of the braking system when converting from mini to metro. As i have found, the mini and metro parts arn't compatible (to sum it up).

Using the mini brake master cylinder with late mini rear wheel cylinders (19mm) and metro gti front calipers just dont work! Some have has slight success with using van rear cylinders (12mm) to increase braking pressure to the front and some have tried bias valves. The conclusion for each method was the same, although there is improved braking it seems that it was still considered appauling.

Ive had nothing from my brakes. They're completly useless so after replacing the rear shoes, adjusting it all up and re-bleeding th system i found that i had some form of stoppage but the pedal was already touching the floor!!! Sod that!

With the mini master cylinder, Metro front calipers and van (12mm) rear wheel cylinders my brake test at the mot came back at a whopping 14% efficiency. To put it into perspective, my handbrake gave me 22% efficiency :o

Ive ordered up a Girling 0.625 Master Cylinder with remote resivour and braided lines to suit. All in to fit a mini was £50.35 delivered and ive been told this will sort the braking issues i have because of the enlarged bore of the master cylinder. I cannot take credit for this method as Geehawk on www.theclubman.co.uk was the first to do this.

Using this method eliminates the bias regulator for the rear brakes too, so later on i might install a valve to reduce braking pressure to the rear.

Next thing on my list is to get the arches sorted, and take it to AJ's for some mapping. After that i should be able to stick it in for another MOT. Fingers crossed she'll be ready for castle Combe... :P

I am considering this for my pickup. Is this just for a single system or a split system?

I would like to have seperate circuits for the front and the back if possible. Would I need 2 of those master cylinders with a bias bar? Or can you get a .625 2 way master cylider?

Cheers for any help!

Mike

Hi mike.

It seems they only have single output. Mind you they do a bias bar and racks for twin master cylinders etc so that would be just as good.

check them out, the best prices ive found and delivery was spot on next day.

hope that helps..

Cheers but I had seen the link on the 16V forum. But thinking about it I do not think I need that master cylinder as I am still using the metro 4 pot front brakes for now.

thats what i am running and the pedal is very low before the brakes kick in looking at changing the rear cylinders if that does not work looking at a twin master cylinder set up

theres one for sale in the z cars section
