Yep, feels much livelier; a little less on the bottom end, but quite happy in 4th from 2000rpm. Really picks up from 3k and keeps on going. I've not taken it much beyond 6k yet, but it does feel like there's more on tap.

All in all, pretty much what I was after. My compliments to AC

I've been out and about in the car over the last month shaking it down and seeing what falls off;  literally in one case as i lost the pin from the upper door hinge on one drive.  Obviously only discovered that one when i went to open the door and the thing was just flapping about.  Fortunately i'm in the habit of supporting the door when i open it so nothing more than a bit of chipped paint as a consequence...

one one drive i noticed the steering was getting a little vague, and it felt a little like the front wheels needed balancing, so got it up on axle stands and found some play in the steering axis from paint between the steering arms and the hubs, so that was all scraped off and reassembled

Also adjusted all the shock absorbers to their softest settings and have been gradually firming them up to find what works best

I'd noticed a little rust bubble over the rear screen a while back and seeing as i had to sort out the paint chips around the door i decided to have a look at that at the same time

RfjfHUu.jpg

..knocked off the scab and scraped the surrounding paint back to bare metal

oFVdAV6.jpg

..a scrub with some deox gel to get rid of all the rust

EMWUoSE.jpg

..a bit of primer and a touch up, and good as new

Same with the door

..and then we get to the oil change;  same issue as before which is disappointing to say the least

Frankly, i can't be arsed to strip it all down again, so as long as i'm getting good oil pressure and it doesn't sound like a box of spanners in a tumble drier, i'll make the most of it and wait for the post-mortem to reveal what the problem was  ;D

...something else I finally managed to identify was the cause of hydraulic fluid escaping from the clutch master cylinder - the cap wasn't sealing when tightened down, simply fixed using a O-ring inserted into the cap.  no leaks now...

..and for comparison; the results from the session last year running a kent 266

Pretty similar that.
Nice to have a back to back comparison even though someone will say the temperature was different......

certainly interesting to compare them - the overlay of two charts highlights the differences a bit more, but I forgot to ask for a printout of that  >_<

the obvious difference is that the 266 gave more torque below 2800rpm, but after that the RS+ has a bit more, but what's particularly noticeable, especially when driving it (...which is really what counts..), is that although the torque kicks in a bit later, it builds much faster

Looks like it's only revving to 5600 or so. Should be a fair bit more than that with the rs+?

Yep - the thinking was that I may need to drop the compression ratio a little to allow more ignition advance

The power hadn’t tapered off yet, so there’s potentially a few more rpm and hp up further?

It’s a great result, hopefully it all works long enough to enjoy for a while!

Ye looks good for 105 or so at 6250?

possibly, on an engine dyno, but on the rolling road the cut off point seems to be where drag increases faster than power; from a tuning perspective i guess it's flogging a dead horse after that point

just over a year since the last update and happily the pup is still behaving itself - a few minor issues that need resolving, including the clutch master cylinder which is still leaking fluid around the cap at times (fortunately only after the car's been thrown around a bit, which isn't often), and the drivers door which has dropped on the hinge studs...

Felt i needed a bit of garage time, so replaced the drums with minifins for something to do

2hHvPY6.jpg

Something that had been irritating me for a while was that the additional instrument cluster i'd installed needed some improvements to the way it was mounted to stop it vibrating; fairly solid at low speeds, but at 60+ it would start shaking about, so with the help of a bit of CAD, i made up a bracket to fix the cluster to the dash top rail.  solid as a rock now, and a few less rattles and buzzes to put up with

Looking good Pat. My drivers door has dropped as well. I think I need to elongate the holes in the door slightly for adjustment plus bend the door top and bottom. Seeing as it's painted is it unwise to bend the door. I assume it would crack the paint?

i think what's happened in my case is that hinge mount gasket was a little undersized and has folded up under the mount; need to find some appropriate gasket material and make some slightly larger gaskets
