So, I did venture out today to set the engine to top dead center and to see where the position of the missing tooth on the trigger wheel is in relation to it. But that fell flat on it's face when I realised that I can't get a spanner on the crank pully bolt to turn the engine over without removing the entire cooling system... Didn't fancy doing that in 1 degree weather so I retreated back inside in a bit of a huff...

I also noticed that I don't have any markings or reference points whatsoever for checking the timing. there is a notch on the crank pully (not pictured, it's on the other side), and a white line on the cambelt, but nothing to line it up with on the engine itself. There does appear to be some rotational adjustment to the teeth on the trigger wheel, but again, I can't get to this until I remove all the cooling system.

I've taken sonscar's advice and disconnected the injectors for now, until I've got the ignition timing sorted. I think I'll have to wait until next week when SC are back at work and they can guide me through this though. I don't want to make the situation worse by mistake.

Something else I'm wondering, if the base map from SC is indeed a rubbish, where do I go from here? Who do I speak to? I have no experience at all with ECU mapping, I was under the impression that the car needed to be running and on a rolling road before any sort of mapping could be done? Do I need to get the car to another tuner somewhere that deals with Delta 400 ECU's?

I've noticed you are in Essex, not sure what part, if it's not too far away try Atspeed in Rayleigh, they are a decent bunch and know what they are doing, I think the only thing they won't work on are the MS based systems, it's best to get it up and running as those £100.00+ hours soon rack up, but there again in your case I would be sending the bill to SC

Go on the delta 400 website and they have a lost of specialists around the world. I found 1 in norfolk who seems competent but I would ring the ones closest to you and see what they say. Then get the car there and let them get it sorted so its bang on. Where you based

My experience is mainly MS systems.I have two cars running them since 2003.It was a baptism of fire.Diy was an understatement and the learning curve steep. The EFI mystery is debunked however.Steve..

Good timing. I've literally just got off the phone with John at SC after discussing our options. We've decided the engine is going back to SC to be set up on an engine dyno and run in. Obviously I'm gutted that I have to remove it from the car again as it was such a faff to get in (the thought of removing the manifold makes me shudder), but I'm just glad things are progressing.

I'm hoping to have it out by this weekend and ready to collect first thing next week.

Good job. And the cost of the dyno?

£350, which I was a bit put out by at first, but then after considering that they also have to pay to use someone else's dyno (supposedly a lot more than they're charging me), then I suppose it's fair. Especially as I'll get it run in and a few power runs too.

Absolutely no clue to be honest.

They're covering the courier to collect and return the engine too, so I'm happy to pay it.

All things considered, it's quite a fair offer from SC I think.

If your happy paying the above then fair enough, but you probably could have them on the sale of goods act, and even get some money back.
